Hi, I’m looking to bur a 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS from a reputable Porsche specialist at a price of £47k.

Checked price on Parker’s and Whatcar and both returned a sub £40k dealer valuation.

There are no Boxster GTS cars on any site for this sort of price. Where do these company’s obtain their valuations?

Lick finger & stick it in the air. (and experience)

If they believe it's a desirable item they'll pop it up for a higher valuation to test the water.

Just look for similar cars on AutoTrader and of course, PistonHeads.

Even at that age, prices can be heavily dependent on specification as well as condition. Relatively easy to add £15k to the price of a new Cayman with fairly common and sensible options, and that can be reflected in used prices. I think used prices might come down a fair bit over the winter, and will probably bounce back to a lower level than this year in spring. I wouldn’t be rushing at anything that seems on the expensive side unless I felt I was unlikely to find another similar one in future.

I also hear that not much is moving and if you want to sell the price has to be right.

For a quick sale (or purchase) maybe you take your chance on one of the auction sites and you may win a comparative bargain ?

Many private sales seem to hope to slightly undercut dealer prices who it would appear are trying to take margins of up to £30k ??

To be fair, this is reputed to be OPC's who we know can be voraciously hungry, others may be significantly better in every respect ???

Have I covered myself with enough maybe's and ????

Happy hunting smile

Like Estate Agents they just apply a factor to the new price, they really don't do much research on such cars which sell in relatively small volumes.

Autotrader has 10 at the time of writing, asking price is £46-56k.

Read up and fully understand the specs, things like folding mirrors and proper 2 zone climate are deal breakers for many etc.
When you find a spec/condition/mileage car you want have a haggle and buy it. They are sensible money for a great car.

The 981 GTS models have always attracted a premium asking price. As others have alluded to the spec combo is very important on these with regards to influencing the price, obviously in addition to mileage, condition and service history.

One of the key spec items on these which can influence price has always been the GTS interior pack (leather dash, more alcantara, deviated stitching, carbon inserts etc). Some will not buy one without it as it makes more of a differentiation to the 'S' model. Ultimately it is down to personal preference, but if it hasn't got the GTS pack I'd personally want it to come with a slightly lower price.

Hi Christian, Thanks for sharing this post. August 22 prices look quite a bit higher than they are now. Makes you wonder what they will be in a years time?
Going back to my original, initiating post, which questioned how pricing web sites arrive at a car valuation? Typical OPC price for a 2015 Boxster GTS £52k to £49.5k specialist £47k to £43k . What car valuation £39.7k,! How do they arrive at this valuation? Certainly not real data based on the above price. Interesting to know what value Glasses guide puts on the car. Anyone got access to one?

Lots of intel. in that thread, albeit none that will answer your question. Sticker price reflects cost of doing business - including warranties and the like. Trade valuation won’t, I imagine. Price is a signal to the market - perhaps the general trade doesn’t want to take on specialist cars that are all spec-dependent, and so prices down accordingly, as a deterrent? (Like insurers and risk - quote high to put off risky customers.)

There is certainly some seasonal softening at present, as we’d expect. Not a bad time to buy. Hope you find a car at a price that you like!

Bish 5, if you can find a highly spec'd 981 3.4S you could save yourself up to £10k over a GTS.
