Hello all.

Been around a while, but a first post for me about the Boxter. Its aways been my dream car, and I've seen a nice one 2011 for 16k.

Question: What is the best way, to insure I get a decent one. Can I pay for an independent inspection, if so who comes upon with the best.

And with 69k on the clock, what should I expect to come up in problems please?

Is it best to buy from a Porsche dealer, or not?

Thanks all.

Gen 2 Cars are very solid and appear to have way less issues than the earlier 987s. Had a 2.9 and now on the 3.4s. Both were great cars and never let me down. My 3.4 is now at 102k miles and still going well although its sounds a little rougher around the edges

69k is not too high with a good service history. Anecdotally hearing that the DFI part of the gen 2 system may be the weak link in the system with carbon build up and poor injector spray leading to eventual cylinder wear. 2.9 doesn't have DFI so less of an issue. The manual is lovely and would be first choice but London and M25 use means the PDK was a better option for me

My main concerns from my perspective is at 102k what happens when eventually the PDK and or engine need serious work and any repair is north of £10k.

I think the 2.9 is perfect match for the 987 Boxster.

I wouldn't be worried about buying privately or (non OPC) dealer. I wonder if OPC's really care about that era of cars anymore....much easier money selling/servicing Porsche SUV's...

Once you know sellers location, ask here for PPI recommendations in that area.

On a 2011 car at 69k, the following will be due if not already done imho :
Broken gear cables sometimes leave you stranded.
Water ingress due to blocked drains can cause starting issues if the immobiliser gets wet.
Coolant pipes if not already done (seem to last about 10 years)
Clutches go between 60-140k depending on driver/use.
Suspension refresh makes a noticeable difference around 100k miles.
Exhaust flange fixings will be due around now if not already done.
I don’t think you’ll find one at an OPC, a specialist will ask for more money but will have a warranty, whether thats any good or not is another discussion, all the items above can be classed as wear and tear and not covered etc.
Don’t discount a good private sale with a stack of receipts for the above items, buy it and enjoy theyvare great cars.

Firstly it's called a Boxster with an s - it's a portmanteau of Boxer (engine) and Roadster.

You'd be very unlikely to find an OPC selling a 2011 Boxster, and if you did they would likely overprice it considerably.

There are a number of good Porsche independent dealers who tend to have the best stock, and usually provide a decent warranty. The cars will be a bit more expensive than an average dealer or private sale, but I would think you are less likely to get bitten.

Otherwise would definitely get an inspection carried out. A number of Porsche independent garages will offer PPI's - depends where in the country you are really for an inspection.

Great cars, you'll love it!

OP - inspection could be good, they check over the car & generally tell you what needs doing or could be due soon.

Haven't used them myself but came across Porsche Inspections before who I think some on PH have used.
