I was told exactly the same story in September 2022 when I ordered my Cayman GTS 4.0. Not feeling in the slightest bitter, as I absolutely love it. However I did end up moving a 2021 Cayman 2.0 on a fair bit earlier than I really needed to, and I was very happy with that one too. I’m now wondering if I need to sneak in another tail end of “pure ICE car” purchase before the world changes forever.
In fairness, changes in Government policy are probably not helping the car manufacturers much. Similarly those invested in making sure vehicle charging infrastructure is available must be struggling to plan ahead.

If you're looking at taking delivery at some stage next year, I'd put your order in now with a view to taking delivery at a date suitable for you. Your OPC can do this and an allocation can be given based on this however, you may get a call if a slot becomes available earlier so be prepared to make a quick decision. You don't have to accept it but you do run the risk of missing out if they pull the plug sooner but OPCs will be given ample notice.
Better to get an allocation of say April rather than having to try and get one in June if they decide to end production in September.

Thanks for the replies. What are the chances of a small discount if demand dries up? We all see what's happening in the used market.
Are we subject to the the EU cybersecurity rules for new cars produced from July 2024? That would definitely stop production but it's a bit of a tightrope to walk.

Best chance of a discount is when they have just taken delivery of a car that the allocated owner then doesn’t take. There seem to be a couple of 911 Turbo S in that position at the moment, but of course the specs chosen might not suit many. Back in the summer, my “old” 18 month old 718 Cayman 2.0 was up at the OPC I use, with about 9000 careful miles on it, for £4k more than I had paid for it new. I’m guessing they probably got at least list price for it. Unless that changes radically, they won’t discount a new one all the time they can get list price for a used one. However, 2024 looks set to be an “interesting” year, so who knows. As the song goes, “Money’s getting cheaper, prices getting steeper…”
No, EU regs won’t apply here now post Brexit, and I’ll not hold my breath for the current UK Government to adopt anything similar. I think most of what they expect for the EU is available as an option on some, if not most Porsches. My wife’s 2022 BMW seems to have all the mandatory “safety features” already. Luckily you can turn them off, because they can be very annoying. However collision detection has actually been helpful when I haven’t necessarily been looking where I am going… (Don’t ask. “Not my car, not my problem,” he was NEVER heard to say. )
I honestly don’t think they are likely to stop 718 production for any of that. Easily engineered solutions, some of which Porsche won’t want to make standard until they absolutely have to.

If getting one of the last registrations is important then you'll be rolling the dice either way as production might slow rather than stop.
I was told similar when I ordered but I wasn't that interested in getting one of the last ones, just getting one! SE was laying it on pretty thick that I might not get an allocation.

When did you first order and when was the car delivered? The SE will say anything to sell a car, whether it's true or not is anyone's guess. On a side note is it worth the money over your M2 CS?Also bear in mind there are a few 0 miles, unregistered cars with various OPC's.

Ordered Nov 21 - Delivered Nov 22I can't make a comment against a M2 CS as mine was the humbler M2C however I can safely say that it was worth the money to me. I can't stress that highly enough, any purchasing decision is highly subjective. I could have replaced like for like and would have been perfectly happy but there's a "specialness" the Cayman GTS 4.0 has (in my eyes) that was lacking in the M2C (again in my eyes).
The difference was most stark with the interior and the handling balance as good as it is on the F87 M2C, can't compete with a bespoke mid engine platform.
Saying that though, the M2C is a billion times more practical, there's a big boot and space for adults in the back. However if its last ICE driving pleasure your after and practicality is taking a firm back seat (see what I did there?), Cayman all the way IMHO.
This interior versus the M2C's is a bit like comparing Business Class with Economy. There's no escaping the humble origins of the 2 series. Some M badges here and there don't make it special enough (IMHO).

Back to cars, IMO the EV other than possibly for city car use, is fundamentally flawed and therefore an inferior product and if it wasn't for the fact manufacturers have been forced to run with it EVs would never have sold in any volume on merit.
Back to the 718, why would Porsche be in a hurry to wrap it up, they are one of the few Porsche models still selling and they are at the cheapest point in the production run and with the 2030/2035 extension why not just facelift it?
