A friend of mine is getting a GR86.

He's the second owner of an 07 3.4S with 63,000 miles on the clock.

He's offered it to me for £10k.

I wasn't even thinking of getting a Boxster but it seems a good price and since I sold my 993 C2 many years ago I've always hankered for another Porsche.

I know you shouldn't care what people think but.......would I look like a right mid life crisis w@nker in one at my age.

No way - not too old. No such thing in my eyes. Care less what people think and more what you enjoy... well when it comes to cars anyway biggrin

Two questions?
Firstly, do you have your own hair?
Secondly, is your T-shirt or shirt, straining at the front?
Regardless of the answers, yes, it is, but who cares!

1) Yes, i am affectionately known as Lego head due to my abundance of hair!
2) It is not, i am a fit and healthy marathon runner although i did notice slight man boobage the other day due to too many pints.

Im 69. I'm on my third Cayman after a boxster S.

My sister, when I got the boxster, accused me of having a mid life crisis.

As a long time car nut, I retorted, "Rubbish, it's part of my whole life crisis'. Just crack on and enjoy what you fancy, not what other people 'think' you shpuld be doing.

I echo all the above about who cares what people think etc. It really doesn't matter, if you want it and will enjoy it then why not?

I had a Boxster between the ages of 43-45 (I am also 47 now). I had also just got divorced so classic mid-life crisis material. On reflection I must have looked like a bit of a prat it in to be honest... it was always beautifully shone up and I liked going round with the roof down where possible, not so much seeking attention, just enjoying the car. Heaven knows what the schools mums round here must have thought - complete pillock I should think (not that I cared though smile).

It's fine.

Just don't wear a back-to-front baseball cap.

I'm 52. I've got a 987 3.2S. I've had it a long time, and no plans on selling it yet - despite a dodgy knee that makes getting in and out of it challenging at times.

I see folks much older than me driving convertibles, and have no plans on declaring myself "too old" any time soon.

Yes, way too old……. You’ll look ridiculous, small boys will throw things at you as you drive past them and women will wag their little fingers at you and laugh..!!!

But ignore them, get the car, get the roof down and enjoy it. They’re great cars and nobody cares what other people (allegedly) think!

Dodn't do it- wrong image not your age but fact that its a Porsche.

Bought my Bmw e89 Z4 35i at 73 which everyone knowns isn't a serious sports car when compared to a boxster.

BUT at end of day if its going to give you more pleasure than money in bank JUST DO IT (after doing your research om what problems that the car can throw at you)
Pics required when you've got it.

47 is definitely not too old: my experience of the demographic of most Porsche drivers is I'm quite young at 46! Also, surely the advantage of being at this stage of life is really not giving two hoots what others think of you?!

Suspect you are aware, but the 3.4 in that era Boxster/Cayman has a relatively high occurrence of borescore, so I would personally get a borescope done before purchase for a little extra peace of mind (others will no doubt disagree!). Also, an '07 will, unfortunately, be expensive tax band so £675 p.a.

I can't recommend Boxsters highly enough, they are massively underrated by a lot of people, just because they don't have a 911 badge, but ignore that!

Don't over think it. We are a long time dead, enjoy the opportunity and experiences it brings. Just get it done!

If you're worried just get a Cayman in a neutral colour!

That said nothing beats driving around all year with the roof down...

The actual owner ages are a little different to the marketing in my view:

Porsche somewhere said:
Buyers of the fan-favorite Porsche 911 model are often between 46 and 65 years old, with the average age being 52. The Porsche Boxster, on the other hand, is often bought by persons who are 47 years of age on average, or who fall between 36 and 55 years of age.

Most boxster owners are probably in your age demographic and plus.

I bought my first Porsche (2.7 987 boxster) at 41 and yes you get some jealous comments but I couldn't have cared less! It was a great car. I then went 993 and now 964 but sometimes think I could sneek in a 987 2.9. Go and get it bought, they look great!

Amused to see this thread. I have now waited nearly 20 months for my first ever Porsche - a well specified 718 Boxster - to be manufactured for me. I am now 73 and I am getting the Boxster after deciding that motorcycling was getting a bit risky. This car as specified will be a great long distance and Alpine passes car (PDK, PASM, PTV and expensive seats) and I have wanted one ever since seeing pix of the concept car in the early 90s.

I'm 49. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford a 981S and the running costs. If you can hear people shouting "wker" at you then you need a louder exhaust.
