I had to move my car a short distance today, and due to the very wet weather the screen rapidly steamed up.

So, I set the heating to clear the screen and.....nothing.

The display indicated "HI" and appeared to show maximum fan speed, but absolutely nothing was coming from any of the vents.

Fiddled around with settings, downstairs/upstairs, changed temperatures, turned A/C off and then back on.

Nothing at all.

Is this a known fault?

(718 Spyder, dual zone aircon)

OK - a quick search elsewhere suggests it is a common fault, and there are some non-warranty (i.e. easy) fixes.

New question - why is the search function on Pistonheads so utterly carp?

Common fault - presume you haven’t moved it for a few weeks. The fan sticks - need to remove filter / cover in front bonnet and free fan by hand. A pain but for me only happens after long stretches of not using (winter etc )

Same happened to me today. 981 GTS. In town, returned to car all damp and wet from rain. Car steamed right up….. no air movement at all, same as described above.

Had to wipe windscreen with flat cap lol.

During the drive home over some bumpy roads, about 10 miles in fans came back on. Phew.

I had not moved it for about a week, yes.

But....If the fan is sticking, should not a fuse blow, or a relay trip?

Otherwise the motor would burn-out, wouldn't it?

it is a common fault as indicated above. lift bonnet and take out bulkhead plenum cover. Cabin air / pollen filter is against bulkhead. Take filter out and you can see into fan housing and flick the fan until it moves freely.

I did this, and applied a mild percussive input, with absolutely no change.

Zero fan.

Next day I started the car and the fan is working as normal.

Weird things cars....
