might be the angle, but that centre console looks very wide. Nice to see some real switches/knobs, but looks like some horrible haptic buttons too

Looking at the dash its showing 125km of range with 53% battery. Would appear that it's going to have around 260km (160ish miles) range in the real world. I guess the difficulty with a 'Sporty' EV is you have to sacrifice range to keep the weight sensible. The other thing I suppose is we have no idea how this car has been driven, or if the range calculation is at all accurate.

Edit: above is incorrect, 125km range with 53% remaining would mean an idicated range of 236km or 147 miles.

If that’s accurate then this just isn’t gold enough and it’s going to fall flat on its face for anyone who isn’t getting one via a company.

If that range is accurate, I can’t see it being much use for a road trip to the Alps and some spirited alpine driving.

I wouldn’t read anything into that. The photos could have been taken after it’s just been thrashed round a track on test.

Porsche aren’t stupid. They know what sort of range this car needs to have to sell.

Porsche can only do sooo much with current battery technology. I’m not sure I would expect miracles given the poor range of the Taycan which is what 2.4 tonnes and bloody large and inefficient.

Porsche are going to have to take a balance between range, performance and it being a heavy barge that doesn’t handle like it should.

It will be interesting to see if extra battery capacity is offered as an upgrade…. And what that does to storage availability.

I’m sure it will be best in class. But then again, is anyone else making an EV in this class….?

My GT4 RS at Spa put the please refuel me light on after one stint of 10 laps from a full tank. It was showing half full on the fuel gauge and “remaining range 55 miles” on the display. laugh So yes very much depends on how it’s been driven.

First impressions are that it looks a mess... I prefer the clean uncluttered 987/997 style interiors...

Maybe now the ICE kill date has moved from 2030 to 2035 they won't be in such a hurry to get it out there?

Electric range is so dependent on conditions and how they are driven , I wouldn’t read too much into the range in the photos . 300 odd miles is achievable in must electric vehicles nowadays. Porsche are not daft they are not going to produce something that only does 160 miles.

But as the poster said above , looks like the UK government is going to mirror the eurozone in extending the ban date for petrol vehicles until 2035. Not wanting to get into a political debate, but the only thing you can rely on is governments changing their minds and their policies when it suits them or they realise it’s totally unrealistic.

You got to feel sorry for manufacturers investing multi millions in new technologies that are going to fall by the wayside or be out of date with technology advances when deadlines move by 5 years.

have they kept the % of EV to ICE cars in place though as these were kicking in next year or has everything effectively been delayed by 5 years?

I think that everybody would like to see a successful sports car option with an electric drive train.

Put simply, a litre of petrol contains a little under 10 kWh of energy and it's not hard to get 4 miles per kWh from an electric car battery ... equating to 40 miles per litre or around 180 mpg equivalent.

Saving the earth is surely as much about not wasting energy and materials as it is about the type of damage that is compatible with a fruitful existence and I was very pleased to read that 70% of the materials value of a new LiIon battery can now be recovered at its ultimate end of life ... after it has been co-opted from a car to use as a power bank etc etc. It's not hard to upscale and in the process probably improve on this.

Other battery technologies are coming. Time and motivation help.

Although the date of 2030 has just been pushed back to 2035 I do recall this originally being 2035 which Bojo brought forwards to 2030 on a whim. It looked far better than just matching Europe didn't it ?

The 2030 deadline did focus minds but it also ridiculed the target ... as we are even now looking at the implications of the 20% electric car sales content for 2024 or face penalties, and the advantage handed to the Chinese car manufacturers who due to their one state system has subsidised many thousands of new electric cars just sitting in fields which could be heading our way to be sold at as high a price as necessary down to under £20k !

Hence the moves we see, flexing of dates, closer relations with Europe, etc etc. Welcome to the real World ...

My 2p ... bring it on. I just like tactile mechanical switches for the important controls that are managed by intuitive feel rather than diverting driver focus to a screen which for various reasons doesn't succeed in doing what you want !!

Evidence VW id3 etc etc.

Not really, I feel sorry for the consumers because they will be paying for the wasted R&D not the manufacturers, they will be making money one way or another.

Wrong - I know loads of people who have zero interest in EV sports cars full stop.

Porsche would have been better going plug in hybrid on the Boxster surely?

Clean energy for around town below 20mph and revert to efficient petrol/electric hybrid on the open road.

I think I’d rather here a 4 or even 3 cylinder Porsche than an electric whirring noise….

Packaging on such a small car would have been an issue though, granted.

Thought of the day…..

They need to change the car’s name.

Boxster will no longer fit.

It will have to be ‘Elexster’……

hehe
