I ignored the Style edition but I think it is good value
Discussion
Recently I have been trying to get my head around the price of new cars. I had a test drive of the new Honda Civic Type R which I really enjoyed. The grip, steering and gearbox were amazing. I felt I could drive it 100% on the full test. Honda Inverness has the best test drive route. Even though I loved the Civic I am struggling to put my name down because it is £50k which I know has been widely publicised. There is a local Dacia/Renault and Mercedes Garage near me. I went in to have a look and was shocked that a new Megane STARTS at £38k. The was a high spec Renault Austral at nearly £50k.
Ok you get the picture and back to Porsche. When I do a configuration for a 911 or Caymen I can easily put on £10-20k in options. I read the Pistonheads article on the 718 style edition and played about with the configurator. I specced a really nice example for £59k because there are some lovely options free. That is half the price of a nicely specced 992 Carrera T or £30k cheaper than a desirable 718 GTS.
The Caymen Style edition has a four cylinder but all the cars at similar money have four cylinder engines. I just think it is a great value Porsche in a world where car prices are starting to get shockingly expensive. I predict that a lot more people will start to look at cheaper cars moving forward due to the economy. Maybe the style edition will be the last chance to buy an affordable Porsche before the Caymen/Boxster becomes all electric. If electric cars are more expensive than petrol cars then an electric Caymen could start at £80 or 90k.

- Cayman, but yeah if you consider the overall package you can get good value for money.
Lots of people said 4 cylinders would tank in value compared to conventional flat 6's - this has not proven to be the case.
Get one bought while you can I say...

Ignore the 4 cylinder naysayers, sure they aren't the most aurally pleasing but again overall they offer reliable, easily tuneable if that's your bag, half decent MPG (again if that's a consideration in this day and age), and good performance.

The 4 cylinder is going to sound epic against the noise from the next gen cars…. Agreed, but they actually sound ok inside and out IMO as long as the soundaktor is disconnected. Certainly not worth the delta in price to get the 4.0 flat 6, which in real world tests the 2.5 can keep up with despite the mild lift in BHP. YMMV, good job we're all different etc.I am particularly enjoying the other thread on the demo car... People seem to have forgot they don't also have to order it in pink and white and getting very upset.
By playing with the configurator a very tasteful combo can be selected especially if you really want GT4 rims (they can't be selected on the base Cayman)
In a fifty grand world of hot hatches they don't look bad value especially in 6spd format as long as you don't get carried away with the options.
Long term ownership I would probably take it over the Alpine.
