I want one. I like the comfort of a coupé and also enjoy open air motoring, but I don’t want a rag-top. I appreciate that the complex targa top of a current 911 could never be incorporated into the Cayman/Boxster shell, and so I’d be happy with a fixed rear window/hoop with a lift out panel, or a T-top, even a tilt/remove sunroof.

The 911 family has coupé, sunroof, targa, convertible and speedster options but with the Cayman/Boxster it’s just coupé or ragtop.

Am I in a minority, or is the engineering just too complex?

Its not a bad idea but i'd rather see them do it by reviving the 914. Sub 1100kg, maybe stick a golf gti engine in there, removable targa panels, £40k price. A boy can dream laugh

Undoubtedly in the minority… I don’t think a Targa would be a stretch engineering wise. The Cayman has the Boxster’s big sills so not much would need to be done after chopping the roof panel out as the strength in the platform is already there. Don’t see much of a market for it though. A full on electric Targa top… just no.
