PADM has failed on my GT4 and it is booked in September to get the offending item replaced. Since it went a week ago it's either been raining or I've been on the motorway so can't comment on what it actually feels like!

Anyone have experience of what impact it has on handling, I'm off to France immediately after its booked in however if I went without it being fixed would I notice in the alps or would it ruin the trip?

In a similar situation with my GT4. Issue occurred on my last trackday. Haven’t noticed any difference as such myself so far.
Collective knowledge says that It fails to stiff mode… which if it’s linked to PASM modes would be on for me anyway on track. I press the button even though my dampers are no longer linked to it.

Also booked for September with the hope that backorder of parts has arrived.

I’ll continue using the car without worry. Back on track next week at Donny.

I had two fail on my 718 GTS (though not at the same time) and one fail on my 718 Spyder.I didn’t notice the difference on either car - road not track though .

Mine failed on my Spyder after driving all the way to Switzerland and I kid you not it failed when I threw it hard into the first left handed hairpin on the first Pass I drove. I pulled over did a quick google as I had not heard of it and continued , I just ignored it and genuinely I couldn't tell any difference and have been driving it for a few weeks with the warning pinging up when I start it everytime.
It's actually going in tmrw to get it replaced under warranty but I do not expect it to feel any different when it comes back.

Looking it at another way, if the alert didn’t come up informing a PADM failure how many here would know? Had a few go when I had the 981 CS. The car felt no different. Not had the pleasure with the GT4 yet.

Failed on my GT3…didn’t notice any difference. Maybe on track it might show up but not for someone of my ability. Had it changed and about two months later the other one went. “That happens about 50% of the time but Porsche won’t let us change both” Oh good…..

So from a technical perspective, what difference does it make ?

Minimise "wind-up" in the transmission ?

In sport plus, it stiffens the transmission (or engine) mounts, depending on the car you have.

I don't doubt it makes a difference, but it's very difficult to tell because it's also combined with a "hard" redline and uninterrupted gearchanges.

Perhaps it would be easier to tell on a manual car. Even then I think it's partially RPM linked, but I could be wrong.

When they fail / short out they should revert to the stiffer setting so in theory the impact will be more obvious when when driving around slowly rather than when you are hooning around hairpins in the Alps.

Left side trans mount failed on mine, results in slightly “thrummy” idle - OPC has parts on order from DE….
Wasn't the lack of all these complicated and marginal parts the reason why we liked the air-cooled RS's so much ?

The worst that might happen was an ABS pump or DMA relay .... ??

Weirdly this happened to my GT4 last night. Car has done a tad over 5K and it was a spirited drive in the Peak district given we've finally had some decent weather. I'd stopped for a while then literally set off over a small hump back bridge and the error came up.

Like many I had no idea what this error related to, so pulled over and dug the manual out.

Called the OPC this morning, earliest they can get me in is 2 weeks, no mention of not driving etc but did say it's quite common. Hopefully they have the parts in stock, but I doubt it.

Any idea on the cost to fix if you didn't have a warranty?

£1500 per side I believe.

If your car is 3+ yrs old… that’s your 2yrs warranty paying for itself and then some, right there.

It’s like you’re all talking in a club and careless of anyone outside of the club. What does PADM mean!?

One of mine failed on my 981S Cayman recently. I was quoted just over £1K for supply and fit of a replacement by a local Porsche independent specialist and a tad over £800 for supply only from my local OPC.

Porsche Active Drivechain Mounts - mounts that stiffen up either with the sport button or above (I think) 4k RPM. Effect of solid mounts when needed but more comfort etc. when at lower rpm etc.
