Hi all,

Sorry to start a values thread, but what is the consensus on 718 Spyder depreciation? The year old cars still seem to be at least + 15% over original list price. That is surely due a correction over the winter?

All views welcome.

Thanks!

Not wishing to get into value debate from a non owners perspective of a 718 Spyder my opinion is yes over list over priced at moment especially considering how many are for sale.

I think you need to look on the Spyder in a slightly different light. It is a bit of a cult car and has a following.

The model has just been withdrawn from production with the last models currently being delivered. There are quite a few coming to the market as the final deliveries are replacing current cars which are being traded back in. I would expect this to settle and then these cars will generally be keepers so although there were more 718's manufactured than 981's I would not expect to see vastly more for sale once this glut has sold. This is the last ICE Spyder.

The pricing is very dependant on spec and mileage with recent top spec cars when new costing up to £115k. The market prices 718 Spyders anywhere between early £80k for an early car with 15 to 20k miles up to £120k for full spec 2023 cars with PTS.

Like all open sports cars the price will dip a little over the winter but will probably come back in the spring. If you look at the 981 Spyder's they are still selling in the high £60k's and low £70k's which is list.

I don't see low mileage Spyder's losing much value even in these times, they are probably the best sports car around.

I missed a 3 year old, 3k miles, gt silver, bucket seat, full leather, well optioned 718 Spyder at Porsche west london that was being sold for 82k in Feb…..

This winter I’d wager they will be 80k ish.

Thanks guys. I was looking at this car but it must be c,£15k over list. Even with the hard times ahead I can't see these losing half their value in three years from now. Maybe £25k over three years?

Nobody has a crystal ball but its 25k approx over the retail price of a 3 year old car, so i'd suggest trade shouldn't be more than a 35-40k drop.

Although if you need to finance it then with interest at 10% you might also be looking at a big chunk there over 3 years >£25k interest.

It has got pretty much all the essentials only missing the reversing camera, looks as though it was bought to sell as it hasn't got many of the little niceties so probably a little toppy.

I very nearly bought a PTS 23 reg car with every box ticked, the best specced Spyder I'd seen but it was up for £120k and sold without going to an OPC.
Not sure what it went for but it was more than this is up for. Depending on the mileage you put on it will depend on what its worth after 3 years but you're not far away, if you sell to an OPC maybe a bit less to cover there bigger margins.
Nice car.

Yep anyone wanting to know likely current values of the 718 should look no further than the 981 Spyder residuals history.

My new white 2016 981 good spec car with standard sports buckets (heated) carbon extended leather red stitching red belts chrono sat plat wheels steel brakes coloured crests pcm phone bits etc etc cost £65k new sold it in late summer 2017 with 2k miles for £75k and would still be around this figure now 7+ years later even with 20k miles.

My advice would be to find a decent spec classic non dating colour latish run low owner and mileage 718 Spyder manual similar spec at reasonable money and not to overpay for needless frippery such as pts ceramics and pdk because excluding these overpriced options traditionally are the very specced cars that will hold their value.

Interesting that the initial clamour for 718 GT4 PDKs appears now to be rapidly on the wane compared to the manuals we have already seen this with the 991.2 GT3 manual v the PDK whilst there is parity in numbers 99% of used 991.2 GT3s are PDK also with the 718 GT4 there are now 50% more used PDK GT4s in the OPC network v manuals which will now tend to follow the same pattern as the GT3 with a corresponding percentage pricing differential.

Bear in mind the pricing differential into winter could well be around 15% with the Spyder so if you can find a car to your taste in the run up to Xmas that will be a win price wise.

Well spotted! I remember that car on CC. It sold as a buy it now car which I think means the £94k paid includes commission. I guess that gives you market value on a private / trade basis, plus £10k or so if margin.

Buy it now would have included commission.

I remember a few saying how bland it was.

Worth pointing out for any less nerdy readers the importance of PDK versus manual. I thought the 981 spyder was manual only?

With some other models the manual cars are more expensive second hand. I think that's what he is trying to say above.
