Boxster/996 tow eye needed urgently Hampshire/Surrey
Discussion
My Boxster has a dead battery and we need to tow it to a local garage.
My tow eye is locked in the front and we can't get the bonnet open (have tried the methods on youtube).
Hoping I could borrow a tow eye for a few hours to get it towed to the garage let them sort it out.
Located Farnborough/Guildford are.
thanks if you can assist, tow eye will be returned swiftly plus some beer tokens...

Have you tried the emergency "Frunk" release? If you remove the screws from the front wheel arch liner (I think on the driver's side) and pull it back a bit, there should be a metal cable that you can pull to release the bonnet. It may be quicker/easier than towing it to a garage. My tow eye is locked in the front and we can't get the bonnet open (have tried the methods on youtube).

Will be easier if you can jack the front to make a little more space or even better remove the wheel (although your locking wheel nut key is probably in said Frunk)

Thanks and yes removed the drivers arch liner with the wheel removed - no magic metal release:Will be easier if you can jack the front to make a little more space or even better remove the wheel (although your locking wheel nut key is probably in said Frunk)
However someone has told me today it’s on the passenger side so will try this tomorrow.
I have tried bmw ford and Renault tow hooks the Porsche uses a thicker bore ( better design maybe?)

Ironically, it is also not uncommon to relocate them to where the front towing eye cover is but if you have already opened that up, I assume you would have found it.However someone has told me today it’s on the passenger side so will try this tomorrow.

If you ask on Boxa.net, someone will be able to tell you the thread of the towing eye - provided that the thread is the same, you could just buy a generic one.
The other option is to try and jump the battery from the fuse box. On later cars, this appears to be the "factory approved" approach.

If not jump the car, I think you could at least get a battery charger to help the battery wake up. If you ask on Boxa.net, someone will be able to tell you the thread of the towing eye - provided that the thread is the same, you could just buy a generic one.

I have looked in my manual on on page 221 there are instructions how to do so.
Basically, remove the passenger side fusebox lid in the footwell. Pull out the red terminal using the yellow gripper in there.Attach the positive lead from your battery charger or donor battery to it. Connect the negative lead to a decent earth, for example the door arrester bracket. Switch on the charger and in a few minutes the cars battery should have enough life to pop the frunk.

Tip when you use the method above use your key fob to open the trunk ,not the switch/lever on the door sill
