Sapphire blue 981 GT4 for sale in classifieds - thoughts?
Discussion
Been tracking GT4 prices for a while with a view to buying one day...and just spotted my preferred colour + clubsport spec in the classifieds

Mileage is higher than normal but 1 owner from new is good and full history. I'm looking for a car to take on track but won't be straight away
Any good / bad points that immediately stand out? I haven't researched much so not up to speed with what to look for!

lovely looking car and 1 owner from new is very rare!
I would want an over rev report and a thorough search for any accident/damage online and then usual re current state of consumables...brakes are over 3k alone in parts and tyres are also quite punchy however you can negotiate accordingly, good to see 2 year extended OPC warranty.
Its strong money for a private sale however popular colour and spec, guessing trade would bid this 60k max (current climate more like high 50's) and OPC would have this up for 70k with that mileage?

You’re contradicting yourself there. If the buyer expects to be knocked to say £64k then he’s pitched it about right. I’m presuming the over servicing is on account of the frequent track use ?

read my post again you will see I said trade at 60 and OPC retail at 70 so private would be in the middle....65 ish in other words we seem to be in agreement I’m presuming the over servicing is on account of the frequent track use ?

Am biased as I think sapphire blue is the best colour available other than the PTS wilder colours. Clubsport is nice to have too.
Mileage isn't excessive with full history, and they are well built cars, much better than paying top whack for a garage queen. 1 owner will hopefully have looked after it very nicely, but multiple owners isn't unusual.
Go drive it and see it in the flesh, a private sale is 10 grand less than what an OPC would sell at realistically, or vice versa, an OPC would pitch this at 70k tops at present I guess.

Great looking car, check if it was eligible for the gearbox recall, original owner should/will know.
Had mine 2 years, very similar spec, fantastic car, puts a smile on my face every time I fire it up.
2 years warranty/assist is gold, covered for pretty much anything.
Brakes/tyres are ££££'s so a good point for negotiating.

Eligible cars had the box replaced as far as I'm aware, mine was in the clear.how much is a set of tyres, £1k???
All 4 corners will set you back 800-1000. If it's on Cups I'd look to replace with PS4s etc as the Cups aren't exactly brilliant in the wet/damp.
Stunning car. The exact same spec as the GT4 I had. Perfect spec if you ask me, buckets, cruise, extended leather and half cage.
As mentioned, brakes are big money on these being GT3 items (£4k for discs/pads all round). At this mileage I would have expected them to have been replaced if the car has seen a lot of track time, but there is no mention of that. Maybe it hasn't done a lot of track and has been used a lot on the road. The mileage would suggest this to me.
You should ask for a measurement of the disc thickness and photos of any cracking around the drillings. Then you can determine if new discs are required any time soon.

Unless you are planning to use it daily, I'd stick with Cup 2s. Fitted PS4S to mine and it removed the sharpness and softened the car considerably. It really removed the raw feeling which killed the weekend driving experience for me. Cup 2's are ok in the wet if you're sensible, it's just cold temps that will get you. In my experience lots of standing water is an issue hot or cold with Cup2s, and temps in single figures they start to get a bit iffy. In just general rain you can take it easy and all is OK like you say as long as the temperature is in double figures.Twinfan said:

I agree. I was once on the way home from a trackday and the heavens opened. A full on thunderstorm leaving huge puddles on the motorway. I took the first exit, found somewhere to have a brew and waited for the storm to pass and the roads to dry out. There are lots of stories of aquaplaning on straight roads at even moderate speeds. I didn't want to risk it.
