Currently looking at a 986 that’s had the RMS replaced back in 2017 but in more recent MOT’s a small oil leak has been noted.

Nothing unusual with these cars I know.

Wondering what the costs at an Indi would be to have the RMS replaced again is I purchase the car .

TIA

The RMS is just a seal and a cheap part. All the cost is in the labour for removing the gearbox.

Have a look on some indy website for a clutch change and take off circa £300 for the clutch and it will give you a good number to work from.

So according to the invoices the clutch was done 20k miles ago
In 2017 and IMS done at the same time .

I might of got the IMS mixed up with the RMS in terms of being replaced !

I think it is not uncommon to have a leak after 4-5 years of RMS change, especially if the car was not used a lot during lockdowns. If the leak is not massive, you can just drive and monitor it too.

That’s the plan tbh .

It’s a 2000 car with just 52k miles so i dare say it’s been sat for long periods during its life .

Will keep the thread updated as I might get a chance to view this weekend

Just buy on history and condition. I had a 58k 2000 car in 2012. Within a year I replaced all the suspension and noticed a big difference. It could have done with a clutch too.

Was keen on the car and wanted to see it but now transpires it’s been sold so back to the drawing board .
