986 Hydraulic Tappets

Hi, has anyone had a go at replacing the tappets/lifters?

My 119k miles Boxster S needs at least a couple changing. The exhaust manifold bolts look as if they will snap at the first turn so I'm wondering if I'd be just as well removing the engine for easier access.

Access is your main issue. getting the cam covers and camshafts off in situ is doable, but very tight. If get the engine out, doing the manifold bolts will be easier, but some will still snap.

Depends how good you are with the spanners, but I removed mine and completely rebuilt it on the drive/garage without a lift.
