Can anyone recommend a reliable, free, VIN decoder?

I want to check for a factory supplied item, which I have now discovered was missing when I purchased a 2 year-old Spyder.

I did the HPI/CarVertical thing before purchase (so no panic!) but they did not provide any build-spec of course.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think a VIN decoder will give you the full spec, you may need to speak to an OPC to see what's recorded on the Porsche database.

Not free but for a small donation there is a VIN options look up service in the Tech section of Boxa.net

The only other way is to check then decode what's on the under-bonnet sticker, as it should list all the factory supplied options when the car was specced / built by the first owner.

I think my 98 986 had the fitted option codes printed on a handbook or service manual.

Recent cars don't have that, nor do they have the full options listed in the handbook as older cars did. This is why I said I think you'll need to contact an OPC to get the info from the Porsche database.

Have you registered at my.porsche.com? It gives me a list of options for free, but took about a week to register mind.

I have, yes.

My reason for asking is that this lists the spec, but it appears to be wrong, unless I am missing something.
My.Porsche.com identifies my car as having the “light design package” but it does not seem to have in reality. I can’t find the expected LEDs, but the sun visors are illuminated (which is supposedly part of the package).
Also I cannot find any way via the PCM to adjust interior light delay behaviour.

It is no big deal, really, I was just intrigued.

Agree. I've used it a few times and it is really good. It has listed every option fitted too.

How do I find out if my car is wired for the front facing dashcam? (982/718)
