Just got my 718 GT4 back from its 2 year inspection service. It has covered 6200 miles.

Started tonight and it has thrown up a PADM fault on the dash.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Car seems far to fresh for this to happen.

Thanks

Yep, had an adaptive mount go on mine a while back, probably when it had less miles on it than yours. They go when the internal coil breaks down, they're well known for it on 718s and 911s.

Back to the OPC for a warranty claim.

Treat these along with the PSE valves as a perishable items. It's not 'if' it's 'when' they let go and by all accounts the timing/longevity is unpredictable.

Aren't the Dynamic Engine Mounts made by Lucas? Enough said.

Can you replace them with non dynamic/solid mounts? Or is the NVH unacceptably harsh if you do so?

I think you can, but you'd need to mess with the car's coding/ECU to tell it they're not there?

On a 2yr old GT4 I'm not sure I'd be tinkering like I would on an out of warranty Cayman S, for example.

Thanks guys.

I have Porsche assistance collecting the car tomorrow and leaving me a curtesy car.

My OPC cant look at it until the end of May so this is an attempt to hurry them along as I am sure Porsche will not want to pay for a hire car for 6 weeks,

Must say i'm a bit disappointed something so expensive has bit the bullet so soon.

Plus 1 for an early life failure here. My first 718 Spyder threw this fault at 5000 miles and less that 1 year old. All sorted under warranty quite quickly. I think they are a touch delicate.

You can get a replacement car while this is fixed?

I had same failure on my 718 Spyder yesterday - just as the mileage hit 5000! My previous 718 BGTS suffered two failures within 10000 miles. To say that I am unimpressed is an under statement! OPC cannot deal with it until end of May - but car can still be driven.

I had this twice when i had my 718 Spyder the second was as i was driving home from the first repair and that was less then 2k on the clock. Had to wait 3-4 weeks for the part each time. Can be driven, but i was not overly impressed.

They just ain’t built as they use to be lol!
To be fair I rather have this as a problem on modern Porsches than the engine failures of the 9x6 and 9x7.1

Keep this thread going.

I would like to use it a evidence that the mountings are not fit for purpose in the future.

It's just one of those things. No point getting all bent out of shape about it. Your warranty will cover it no problem and you can bet Porsche will be looking at developing the part if so many are failing. You get an equivalent car to use and abuse whilst your warranty work is done and you can even drive yours with the fault with no issues.

Yes , it's a teeny bit annoying but look at the bigger picture , life's too short.

Yeh right like the m96/97 engine more likely an independent will come up with a solution!

I said they would be looking at it not necessarily addressing it laugh

Just out of interest has anyone who has had PADM unit replaced subsequently also had the replacement fail ?

Nope. I haven't had the other side fail either, and my car doesn't exactly get pampered.

Failures seem to be very random and probably down to manufacturing weaknesses, or not?

Mine had one unit failed so the previous owner replaced both just in case. This was at around 11,000 miles, 4 years ago.

It’s now on 20k and touch wood, they’re still working. It’s spent the last 4 years in dry storage 90% of the time. No idea if that has any bearing on it.

Mine failed just as I swerved to avoid a pothole! My last one failed when I accelerated a bit quickly onto a roundabout - suggests they don’t like sudden movement ( much like myself !! )

I read this thread last night and lo and behold, mines has gone today! Car has just over 5k miles, 2020 car. Looking to get this fixed, what is the best solution - phone Porsche assistance or book directly with the OPC. Ideally I’d like to get a courtesy car until this is sorted which would hopefully also keep delays down to a minimum. Just a pain that it kicks off just as the weather is starting to turn!
