Recent purchase of a 718 Spyder pdk and although it sounds great when you are on it up in the revs, even with the exhaust knocked on it's just a little muted lower in the revs under normal driving, I drove my 981 3.4 GTS pdk this week with its blips on the downshift and exhaust crackling so when I switched back into the 718 it almost felt like someone had pushed the mute button.

Just wondering what is out there and if anyone would share their experiences if they have fitted or modified anything.

I have a rear silencer on my GT4. There are also over axle pipes (OAPs) without GPFs and different exhaust headers. All induce drone and resonance to varying degrees, all are expensive and some require an engine re-map.

My advice? Don't bother with any of them and love the car for what it is.

6mm grub screws in vacuum pipes. Sounds epic and costs £2.

Definitely pull the valves.
I also added a JCR back box and I am pleased with the improvement.
However in my opinion it will never sound as good as the 981 particularly if you enjoyed the pops and farts

This seems like a good solution - stops the valve closing between 2k & 4k.

Easily reversible if you don't like it!

Forcing the valves open is a good cheap option but in my experience it still adds drone and resonance between 3k-4k revs which is why Porsche designed the OEM system the way they did...

I find it does drone in the Cayman but not in the Spyder. so much so I’m going to take the Cargraphic controller off the Cayman in the next couple of weeks.

Good point - Spyders do respond differently, thanks for the correction smile

Caymans seem to be a drone magnet...

I've done this on mine, works a treat and cost £9.00. The sound is still no where near as good as a 981 with PSE but it does stop the car going quiet from around 2k - 4k revs in first and second. Took 10 minutes to fit and can easily be removed if required.

Same. I have mine set to about a quarter of an inch from the ball joint shoulder and there's no drone but there is a little more sound from the inside from 2-4k rpm which is what I wanted.

I'd suggest placing the collars right down on the shoulder and adjust according to your liking.

Well it is quite sunny today up here. I just drove window down and in manual (PDK) on b roads and motorway with PSE and PDK sport on . The sound was so glorious especially from 3K to 8K. The crescendo to 8K is so nice and when upshift near the redline, the burping/beeping sounds are so thrilling. I really enjoy the aimless driving and I am so grateful that I am an owner of this car.

Done the mod , bit fiddly , but works a treat , gives life to the lower rev range .

I fitted them up as high as I could , the nuts made it a bit tricky getting to the heads of the little bolts .Tip when fitting , remove one bolt , leave one in but only just catching the thread , pull apart and slip over the shaft , this will allow you to hold the collar and slightly tighten the bolt , then put in the other bolt and tighten evenly bit by bit on each side until the collar grips , then slide into desired position before fully tightening, I used a size 10 hex bit driver , the collars were from RS components, I haven’t adjusted them as sounds great with the valves fully open .

are you Cayman or Boxster ? what's the noise level like low down and does it drone at cruising speed ? guessing now the exhaust button makes no difference as its fully open all the time?

Hi Jeff , its a Boxster 25 , no droning really even with roof up , maybe different in a Cayman ,car still needs to be in Sport for best sound , this activates the PSE anyway , otherwise the PSE button is obsolete, its a very effective cheap mod that can be easily reversed .

These fit between the valve screws , a little more expensive but are the correct size and very well made, a bendy magnetic bit driver would make access easier , I managed ok with a short driver.

So you need x2 right? Therefore c£30 + Vat and delivery?

Just want to make sure I’ve got the basket correct.
