Got my GT4 and have a few questions
Discussion
Hi guys, finally got my 718 GT4 and what a machine. It's exceeded all expectations.
I do however have a few questions I was hoping you guys could answer.
1. Are there any options within the settings where you can enable PDK Sport, exhaust valve open and disable start-stop by default? My car seems to be remember the suspension setting but none of the others. It's not a biggie but thought I'd ask.
2. Has anyone experienced any steam coming out of the vent from the front bonnet? This has happened to me twice now and when the steam hits the windscreen, visibility literally drops to nil. I think this might be caused by the radiators and my Porsche guy has said the same.
3. Do the 18-way sports seats have a memory function?
4. Does the GT4 have side mirror tilt when reversing?
Thanks

I can only answer 2. since my GT4 is a very early 981
... the steam is most likely from the brakes when driven in the wet evaporating splashed water which is then condensing on your cold windscreen ...
... or water on the outside of a wet radiator being evaporated off as it heats up ... or a fan starts ??
Enjoy your car

Cheers mate. I think you may be right as it's been raining here since yesterday evening.... the steam is most likely from the brakes when driven in the wet evaporating splashed water which is then condensing on your cold windscreen ...

Certainly not for stop-start as it resets to "on" when the engine is turned off. I think exhaust is the same? PASM setting stays where you left it though.
2. Has anyone experienced any steam coming out of the vent from the front bonnet? This has happened to me twice now and when the steam hits the windscreen, visibility literally drops to nil. I think this might be caused by the radiators and my Porsche guy has said the same.
In heavy rain things getting hot chuck out steam, sounds normal to me.
4. Does the GT4 have side mirror tilt when reversing?
No.

There is no OEM facility to do this, there are aftermarket solutions that easily plug in and will remember which buttons have been pressed and will leave them in that last known state. Thanks

This will probably invalidate your warranty if your dealer finds the box your car. However it looks very easy to unplug if you wanted to do this before giving the car to the dealer for anything. I remember seeing an American youtube some time ago which showed in some detail how to activate certain buttons automatically on start up, which also involved plugging in a box of electronics like this - maybe it is the same device now being sold commercially.https://t-design9.com/memory_module_porsche.html

Looked into this but it seems with newer 718's, there's no where to mount the box and the manufacturer recommends cutting out a hole to mount it. Definitely will not be doing that haha.https://t-design9.com/memory_module_porsche.html

You get this through the vents in the cabin when you have a pin hole prick in your heat exchange. So suspect you might have a tiny leak in your rads.
Keep an eye on your coolant level and get it looked changed asap if it drops.

I'm suspecting it's due to the rain and cold weather as both times I experienced this, it was raining and very cold. Will keep an eye on coolant level though just to be safe.
Happens on hot days if it rains heavily enough with my 981 GT4. The engine runs pretty hot, so steam from the top of the radiator isn't wildly surprising, but also had me checking temperature gauges first time I saw steam billowing from the top vent in front of the bonnet. One of the many little idiosyncrasies that makes the car so absorbing for me. The longer I own it, the more I love it.

The steam coming out of the front vent…. I was racking my brain to remember where I’ve seen this before…. And it was from the scoop on the front of a R53 supercharged Mini Cooper S Works.
So if it doesn’t smell, then it’s just water vapour and probably nothing to worry about. . If it smells, it’s something else.

Or it’s just rain/residual water from washing. Happened to me all the time. No leak from my rads or loss of coolant.
Yeah of course. I agree that is probably what it is, but it was when he said visibility went to zero that I thought I would mention the coolant as something to consider.
Easy to tell though, if your coolant level doesn't drop you know that is not it.
