2007 Cayman - gear lever drops into 4th…
Discussion
Hi all,
I hope someone can help me understand if this is OK or something to worry about..
My neighbour has a Cayman 2007 with about 54k on the clock.
I am interested in buying it and he has allowed me several local runs to get a feel for it.
The one thing that concerns me is that say I am approaching a traffic light at slow speed and I try to put the gearbox into neutral, several times now it has just dropped into 4th gear - without any real effort on my part - I was just pushing it into neutral.
The first few times I did not even realize until I released the clutch and the gearbox complained!!
Should I be worried - or is this par for the course for a car of this age and mileage?
Also, I do find the 1st and 2nd gear are a bit notchy - not as smooth to engage as I would have imagined.
My previous 'sporty' car (and the only sports car I have driven) was a 2004 S2000 with 112K on the clock - and I guess I am comparing the gearbox action with that. I did have the gearbox bearings replaced during my 1st month of ownership of the S2000 - so I don't know if that made the S2000 gearbox action less notchy?
