981Cayman rattle and weird stuff on windscreen
Discussion
My 2013 Cayman has, over the last 1,000 miles or so, developed a rattle somewhere in the passenger side headlining around the rear view mirror assembly and/or sun visor clip (it's really hard to pinpoint it). It's particularly noticeable on rough roads at low speed - any quicker and the road noise drowns it out...
What's weird is that there's also a streak of some kind of oily liquid coming from the bottom of the rear view mirror assembly, running down the middle of the inside of the windscreen. I wipe it away every now and then but it reappears over time.
Does anyone know if these two things are connected? Has anyone had similar issues and what did you do? I'd quite like an idea of what's going on before I lose patience and either start dismantling the rear mirror unit and/or removing the headlining - or paying my local indy to do it.
Cheers!

Problem you have with a Cayman is that a rattle can be coming from what you think is the front but is actually coming from the rear. If you can have someone in the car with you whilst driving then they, or you, may be able to pinpoint the rattle.
Agree with the diagnosis on the mirror.

Yes, good point. I’ve had a mate with me and I’ve had my wife drive while I try to listen. I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere high in the front but I’ll give it another go with one ear on the rear, so to speak.Agree with the diagnosis on the mirror.
