Does anyone have any experience of the "Connect" version of the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyre - with the tyre temperature and pressure sensors inside the tyre rather than the pressure (only) sensors in the valves?

I have tried to find prices on the Michelin website, but they only list for the tyre itself (and for the Cayman GT4, not the Spyder) and there does not seem to be any pricing info for the receiver box.

My main interest is the suggestion that this version has deeper tread than the non-Connect version, so should be better in standing water.

But the Michelin app does look interesting.

TIA

Literally picked a set up today. Getting fitted tomorrow ready for RS day next week.

I haven’t bothered with the electronics gubbins… but apparently the compound is actually different than ‘normal’ Cup 2 and as you say the tread depth is greater… so hopefully more life and wet weather performance.

I will be interested to hear how you get on with them.

Can I ask the tyre prices?

I’ve got a set and the elctonic gubbins on my GT3. They are supposed to have better wear rates than the standard Cup…I am not a driving god so I would not pretend to be able to tell you how they perform vs the standard tyre. The App is great for managing tyre pressures etc. From memory I think the sensors and the box that goes in the car cost £400. My tyre dealer/supplier sourced it for me together with the tyres.

Definitely more grip than the previous tyre. A Cup 2.5 IMHO. I wouldn’t bother with the sensor gubbins personally and never did.

Does this mean it is safer in the wet? As safe as Michelin PS4S in the wet ?

Okay then would it be as safe in the wet as Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2?

By that, do you mean as safe as a cut-throat razor? I really didn't like those in the wet on the road at all. Have since driven with Michelin Cup 2 in the wet, and while they are not great, it didn't feel as concerning as the Dunlops. They were OK on dry roads, and admittedly worn to less than 3 mm tread depth, but "never again" was my first thought. Replaced with road tyres the following week.

Had an e-mail from Michelin last week…they are withdrawing the Connect kit from sale as of 31st March. No idea if tyres are still available…I know there aren’t any available at the moment. They’ve said they will be in touch in Sep regarding compensation…

These tyres are being replaced by the PS S5 (or is it 5S) which should provide similar connectivity.

Different box and app required, no doubt

Hadn't seen that. Looks to be a more road orientated tyre so not sure it is for me.

With most cars having tyres pressure sensors I wonder what the pitch will be for the connectivity. I mean you aren't going to wan to know how much you need to reduce pressures after 50 miles on the M1.

It appears the Connect kit is being discontinued but the Connect version of the Cup 2 tyre itself is still going to be available. Not sure of the different tread depths but I believe the Connect has a tread wear rating of 240 with the normal Cup 2 200.

Hope that's of use to someone.

PS S5 doesn't replace the Cup 2 though, its replacing the PS4S

That is interesting although if they stop supporting the App that might prove a problem
