I noticed a squeaking/squealing noise from the rear brakes driving today on my Boxster GTS. (8 years old, 20k miles).
When I touched the brakes the squeaking stopped. Can’t say I noticed it again.

However, on getting home, after a 15 mile leisurely drive, no heavy braking at all, when I got out it was clear you could smell the brakes were burning hot. However, this was only the rears, on both sides.

The fronts were cool and normal, the rears were like I’d just done a dozen hot laps on a track. Which I certainly had not!

Any ideas.. ? Definitely both sides, definitely just the rears. Could it be the parking brake? Is that both sides of the car?

It will be going to the Service centre. Car has recently had full warranty applied. Like a month ago.

Handbrake operates on both rear wheels, could be binding or not releasing properly.

100% this. Had it years ago on my Mk2 Golf GTI 16v and was exactly as you describe.
