Hi….

Had the dreaded 111 check today and it brought up the following issues..

1.Fuel filler cap retaining strap broken.( the bit of rubber that connects the cap to the car)

2.Tyre sealant out of date.

It’s a 981..2.7 2014 Boxster.

Any suggestions where i get replacements?., trying to avoid the Porsche tax……!!!

Thanks

Andrew

Before you dismiss the OPC do check their prices. In many cases they are cheaper than the Porsche parts specialists.

Re: Tyre Seal - get a tyre plug kit for £10-£15 from Amazon. Better than the gloopy stuff that few garages want the hassle of washing out and repairing.

Definitely this, but also:

Can't believe either of those two items block you from their warranty though, what a sham.

Believe you can buy the tether separately for a few pounds from an OPC - read recently on another forum I’ll try and find it.
ETA - yep £3.95 from Glasgow..might not include vat and I’d fit it yourself with the aid of some hot water.

My check pulled out two things… weak gas struts for bonnet, and a dodgy clip for a sun visor. Like who would have made warranty claims on those?

They didn’t make me purchase new replacements before spending £1330 on the warranty though…..

The tethers vary a lot depending on car and fuel filler cap fitted. On some you can replace the tether, on others they're sort of built in.

I needed one for my 718 with the aluminium style cap not long and luckily the tether alone could be swapped. I got lucky as my OPC had one knocking about, usually they're not available to buy separately.

Thank you…i did see the sealant on that site, guess i need to check that it’s ok to use under the warranty..

The filler cap doesn’t say it’s suitable for the 981 Boxster? cheers….

Just had a look at mine and it looks like it’s integral to the cap…sort of flat plastic ring midway down the housing with the rubber cable leading off it.

Cant believe the whole cap is only £17.38 though….

Could well be if it's the standard plastic cap.

I think my alu-look one was £58ish including the tether.
