I've got a 718 GT4 (from new) after having had three GT3s (of which two were RSes).

The GT3's user manual has a section on specific maintenance related to track miles beyond the obvious brake/tires/oil/etc. My GT4 came with the generic 718 manual covering base, S and GTS models, and has no mention of any specific maintenance that is required/recommended.

Have others here got a GT4 specific handbook, and if so does this mention anything about this?

Many thanks!

Michael

Yep, there's a track specific addition to the GT4 handbook. From memory, it says oil changes after 10k track miles - yes, that high!

I do 5k miles a year on road and track so it makes zero difference to my maintenance schedule.

Thanks - yeah that makes no difference at all, as I do about the same mileage as you...

My OPC in Switzerland has quite a few GT cars so they would no doubt handle this correctly, but down here (Algarve) GT cars are pretty rare. On the other hand it means that the folks at the local OPC are quite eager to help!

ive a copy of this. most is obvious. but Oil is 6000 track miles; fort and rear hubs have intervals too.

Rear hubs and bearings are every 6k, front hubs and bearings every 12k. Oil as said above is every 6k.

Anyone actually do this?

I particularly liked the manual saying that use of non approved pad is not permitted. So no RS29, PFC 11’s/331 or Endless ME20 you animals.

And no running of slicks/scrubs either! If this is the case why did they offer a front roll cage?

I thought the hubs/bearings was related to the centerlocks - I guess not. I'd also be interested in knowing if others who have had their cars for longer are doing this.

Interesting - the OPC in Switzerland offers Pagids as pad replacements (as in suggests using Pagids instead of the normal pads)

I'd love to have a copy of this - if you can't upload it maybe you can contact me directly for an alternative method?

Thanks!

Michael

My GT4 has always been over-serviced ... with oil and filter changes approximately every 3000 miles and brake fluid every year with the new set of pads (which last about a year with the ST's).

I understood that hub mileage limits were for the centre locks and have never paid any particular attention to these ... though I of course pay particular attention to the whole of the suspension when the car is spanner checked and then when the geo is set-up.

The GT4 Clubsport engine does not require the preventative maintenance of the GT3 Cup cars ... and I've heard of cars following three years racing being stripped and simply put back together with the new bearings and seals that any good engine check should justify ... nothing else.

My own engine was compression tested only 500 miles ago :

Cyl 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

229 / 228 / 230 / 231 / 229 / 230 psi

The engine uses around half a litre of oil between changes ... that is in around 3000 miles ... and the car has now done almost 30,000 miles.

So I guess that they are pretty bomb proof (not wishing to tempt fate !!)

Am I guilty of over-servicing my car ???

I have the 981 version too - Porsche sent it to me when I bought the car. It is very much the same as the 718 GT4 and it also specifies changing the front and rear hubs at same track mileage intervals posted above.

ChrisW - no you are just a sensible owner ! I do my oil and brake fluid every year regardless of use.

PM me anyone who wants a copy.
