Hi,

Got a low coolant level warning on 981s.
Spent a few hours trying to figure out what ready mixed coolant to buy, and from where - zero success.

Can someone help?
Where can I buy a proper coolant that's already mixed in the right proportion?

Thanks

Prestone.

Why? It's a very good coolant it seems.
You can mix it with everything, or rather, anything.
You can buy it for a sensible price, from anywhere.
Look at Toolstation, Screwfix, Tesco, etc etc and buy it wherever it's convenient, or even get it delivered from someone.

ETA it's even on offer at Tescos at the moment. Fill all of your cars with it - the cooling systems I mean. Look... I've even put in a link.

Thanks!
So then what's the fuss about the 'Porsche approved' thing? I never expected a coolant to be manufacturer approved prior to today haha.

For coolant Porsche use a VW specification unsurprisingly, your 981 would have been TL 774 J. VW are now on TL 774 L.

General rule is not to mix different types but from '96 onwards all the the newer specifications where miscible in the older ones.

The Prestone mentioned above is a TL 744 J specification coolant but from memory coloured yellow rather than pink.

The stuff from your local OPC in a Porsche branded black bottle will be basically the same as the stuff as you would get from a VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda dealer in a grey bottle and likely to be same as any other brand that references "Glysantin" in the datasheet. You need G40 or GG40 for an exact mix.

Money. Porsche (and other manufacturers) want to frighten you into buying the Brand they stamp on the outside of somebody else's products.

ETA obviously it is crucial to put the correct specification products into your vehicle - Prestone make a (very good) coolant that is correct for all vehicles, and more importantly it can mix 'safely' with anything that is already in there.

Amusingly it is luminous yellow/green, and so looks like something from the Springfield Nuclear Facility.

The real stuff in the black bottle from Porsche really is nothing compared to the value of the car.

£10 or so from ecp or Porsche .

The question would be - where is the coolant going?
