981 Sale - Is 111 inspection & Warranty Useful
Discussion
Seeking a bit of input.
As I've been fortunate enough to get a 992T build slot I plan to shortly advertise my 981 2.7 via the classifieds. Mint car with full md history and 13k miles.
The 981 will pass a 111 inspection and can have a fresh Porsche warranty applied - is this £750 cost worthwhile and if you were looking to buy / have bought would you pay more for one with a transferrable warranty and recent 111 inspection?
Congrats on the incoming car.
Personally, I think the extended warranty is definitely attractive on a private used vehicle. Certainly removes potential risk from a used purchase. However, not everyone will value the extended warranty and some may even view it as a constraint.
Will it sell easier with a warranty? Probably. Will you make you money back? Harder to say.
If you are uncertain, you could advertise the car with the option of adding the warranty before sale, at cost to the buyer. You'd be on the hook for any remedial work required to get the warranty, but the buyer pays the cost for the warranty and inspection. Shows you have confidence in the car and the buyer can elect to add the Porsche extended warranty, at their cost, if they value it.
Also, if you haven't already, check out we buy any car and their competitors. Might give you a guide as to what you can achieve with minimal hassle and then compare it to what is achievable via a private sale. Is the uplift worth it for potential hassle associated with a private sale?
Good luck

I had it 111 inspected due to the non Porsche warranty expiring and got tyres, condensers, exhaust bolts sorted which were the only defects.Personally, I think the extended warranty is definitely attractive on a private used vehicle. Ah, ok. Apologies, I thought you were thinking about having it inspected and adding a warranty. So you've had the 111 point check, paid for remedial works and now are debating adding 1 year extended warranty for £750?
The inspection and remedial works will definitely help with the sale, regardless of adding the warranty.
For me, a warranty is definitely of value and would make the car more attractive than an identical car without a warranty. I still doubt you'd recoup all of the cost though.
Your 992T is presumably some weeks/months away? Not sure if you are intending to sell the Boxster just before delivery of the new one or sooner. If you don't sell the Boxster immediately, you will benefit from the warranty coverage for that period of time, so it's not completely for the new buyers benefit. The 'relevance' of the 111 point check also starts to diminish as time/miles pass.
In your position, I'd get the warranty.
Good luck

If you've already got Porsche warranty on the car you won't need a 111 point inspection as long as your servicing is in accordance with the warranty. They dispensed with this during Covid. All you need to do is extend it and then pass iton to the new owner or you can cancel it (if the trade buy it etc) and get a refund on the unused portion.
When i bought my 981 Boxster it had the remainder of a warranty included, did it sway my decision? possibly but only because i’m not particularly good with the spanners.
I i wouldn’t have really have thought i must pay more to find one with a warranty .
Unrelated …i am having to have the 111 point inspection done before i can renew it again having just paid each year because some “idiot “ forgot it was going to renew last month and went away for 7;weeks…

I've just sold my 981 GTS which had 8 months warranty left and it was certainly something people asked about and valued, but whether it warranted (no pun intended) an increase in price I am not sure. Low mileage cars tend to take the value from the history rather than warranty.
I'd say it would make your sale easier, but probably won't do much to the value of the car so you may only see some of that cost back. On the other hand, if you did end up trading it in somewhere you can always cash the warranty back in I believe. I say this because you will get a few traders offering you on the car, as I did, and I ended up selling that way as it was quite a small differential.
Personally, I would get the warranty or, if you have time, advertise it saying it will come with a warranty and see if that gets any interest before you commit.

I would not buy one without the OPC warranty, there are too many things (anything) that cost a fortune to put right, so a bit of peace of mind.IMHO it would make it an easier sell, when I eventually sell mine (privately) it will also be mint and sold with a year of Porsche warranty and new MOT thrown in for good measure.

Obviously you can only get a refund for the unexpired portion if you’ve not made any claims. 😀Buying any car privately is risky. The seller and the buyer need to minimise those risks.
Personally, I would only buy a contemporary, high value, Porsche, privately, with a Porsche Warranty.
It’s good value and gives both buyer and seller a high degree of protection. If something does go ‘pop’, it should be the Warranty that deals with the problem.
I would also do some due diligence and check the Service invoices and MoTs etc, plus some kind of HPI check.
As a seller, in order to ask the best price, these things plus a decent detailing, first class advert and pictures are necessary, IMO, to give any buyer confidence in you and the car.
