I’ve been offered a well priced 2016 2.7 Boxster that needs a little tidying. The history with the car is a bit sketchy. It’s done 40,000 miles which looks genuine, passed an mot with no advisories but if I buy it I think I’ll put it into a specialist for a once over. what jobs is it likely to need doing that are common for a Boxster with that kind of mileage and age?

Beyond normal servicing, not much i suspect. From your other thread i would speak to your nearest OPC for a service and inspection for warranty, costly but peace of mind if its all new to you.

Thanks for replying.
Just wondered if the 2.7 had any common issues - I know the 3.4 can suffer bore scoring. Id normally do my own homework before buying but I don’t have the luxury of time if I want to buy this particular car.

I don’t think I would bother with OPC and warranty.

Just use a good indie, save a packet and enjoy.

I’m sure ive read on the internet about a 981 in some other part of the world having a new engine under warranty. On 981s its all a bit of a myth.
I think the only issues between cayman/boxster would be hood/body related, the engines are the same except for the rev limit/map to give a few more hp to the cayman.
981 reported issues are exhaust bolts (common porsche problem) or if fitted, active engine mounts have been reported to fail a few times, but they only come with certain option (sports chrono?)

No. Nor did the 987.2.

Bore score disappeared ( mostly) with the 9A1 engine closed deck motor from the 09 987.2 upwards .
A few 3.8 , 911 s , very rare have stuffed from 09 upwards with the bored out 9A1 .
Localised cooling issues likely related to thrashing from cold .

The 2.9 987.2 is the pick of the crop imho .

Any 09 upwards . So your 16 is safe .
Relax and enjoy it .

I can certainly recommend Porschacare. They look after my 981 Cayman S very well and are reasonably priced too.

I’ve booked the car in with them on the 15/1 - full service plus, drive belt, plugs, pdk oil change, Aircon service and a general thorough poke about.
