Ignoring the obvious price difference and gulf in years - what does the Cayman massive think?
Cayman R or GTS 4.0?
On the other thread you say you are looking for a 981 GTS. If that is the case then no point in considering a 718 GTS along with the 981 GTS, may as well get the R for some differentiation.Ignoring the obvious price difference and gulf in years - what does the Cayman massive think?

Cayman GTS 4.0 will be pretty much box fresh, no real miles on any suspension bushes or joints, so will need little or no real maintenance for a few years. It will also keep up with relatively recent cars in the traffic on track I should think.
Cayman R all have quite a bit more age now. What you save on purchase price you'd want to spend at least some of on making sure nothing is worn and everything is pointing in the right direction before enjoying track time.
I was thinking along the same lines late last year. I have an order placed for a Cayman GTS 4.0, and that's ultimately what I'm most likely to end up in later this year. The thing that swings it most for me is that I never know whether I'm going to need to do a lot of reliable road miles for commuting/business in any year. It can be anywhere between 5k and 18k (I have another car that I use when the weather is better), and if it's the latter I want something unlikely to need any maintenance work, and I won't feel like it's a shame to put a load of miles on.
If it was more purely for pleasure, I love the idea of a Cayman R. I have never driven one, but I don't doubt a manual one would be exactly my sort of thing. They are one of my favourite looking Porsches of all time too. The GTS 4.0 will be my third 718, I do love them. But to me they just look a bit "slabby" compared to the 987, or even the 981. Growing on me slowly though!
