With which tyres are the Caymans being delivered?
Discussion
Hi all.
Question spawned from another thread I created asking about different tyre types front and back due to the fronts on my Cayman needing replacing ( https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...), and it made me wonder what tyres are the current 718 Caymans (and Boxsters I guess) being shipped with?
I know there's a universal preference here for Michelins, but I wonder if Porsche is of the same opinion. Also keen to know if they're of the UUHP (MP4S / Eagle F1 SS) or UHP (MP4, Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, etc) variants?
Thanks.

Pirelli PZ$s for me on a GTS delivered in March however a chap was picking his GTS up the same day that was built the week before mine and it came with PS4Ss.
Luck of the draw TBH.
The PZ4s are pretty good IMO compared to the PS4Ss. Pirelli had to do something as the PS4Ss were wiping the floor with them.

Thanks all. Those of you noting P Zero tyres, are they all PZ4s?
Looking at this review, they would seem to be a very good tyre. Handy for me if I have to replace all 4, as they seem widely available.

Yep checked the set sat in my kitchen and they're N1 PZ4's. Delivered December on a 718 GTS. Looking at this review, they would seem to be a very good tyre. Handy for me if I have to replace all 4, as they seem widely available.

I can't just make rash decisions, so if anyone is interested I have noted the scores of both the MPS4S and PZ4s in the 2021 Tyre Reviews test below:
They aren't true rivals as the PZ4 competes with the MP4 in the UHP category, not the MPS4S in the UUHP category, but these are the tyres consistently available in Cayster sizes at the moment. As such, I expected the MPS4S to be better in the dry, but I didn't want something that fell off too badly in the wet as I do drive my car all year round.
The number brackets next to each result is its position out of the 14 tyres on test.
So, as expected I suppose. A UUHP tyre is empirically faster in the dry, but falls off a little in the wet. The UHP tyre is broadly excellent everywhere and in this instance the PZ4 would have beaten the MPS4S on aggregate, if it weren't for its oddly poor aquaplaning result.
Not sure I'm any closer to an answer Got a few TDs booked this year, so will likely just go MPS4S.

Pirellis consistently seem to receive a lot of criticism on here, yet in the magazine tests they always come out far closer. It’s almost as if some of these reviews were paid for…
PZeros on Porsches have certainly been criticised quite a lot here in the past, whilst the Michelins and Goodyear feedback seems consistently far more favourable.

It always amuses me when generalised conclusions are made about certain brands.PZeros on Porsches have certainly been criticised quite a lot here in the past, whilst the Michelins and Goodyear feedback seems consistently far more favourable.
Pirelli, for example, have a long standing reputation as an innovative manufacturer of quality performance tyres for a wide range of applications, they are the official supplier to F1 and many other race series, they are OE fitment on most prestige sports cars - Porsche, Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini, etc, they come out well in most independent reviews………
But, it just takes a few people on an internet forum to declare that Pirelli’s are rubbish and that somehow has more substance - it’s brilliant
