Hi all,

Planning ahead to the first bout of maintenance within my ownership of my Cayman and just want to make sure that I get the correct service completed. The car is a 2007 registered, manual 2.7l model and currently on 44k miles - 6,000 of which I’ve done since I bought it in March.

The history of the car is as follows:
- 2009, 900 miles: oil & filter
- 2012, 13k miles: major + spark plugs
- 2014, 20k miles: minor + drive belt replaced
- 2016, 26k miles: minor
- 2018, 28k miles: major + spark plugs
- 2020, 35k miles: minor
- 2022, 38k miles: minor
I’m told there was also an oil change done annually, though have no paperwork to evidence this.

As far as I can understand it, the the next service is required in 2024 and should be a major one. The services have happened in Jan/Feb so I’m keen to get it booked in for 2023 but unsure if I’m asking for a minor service or should just ask for an oil and filter change (what’s the actual difference?)?

It seems like I’m well overdue a replacement of the spark plugs but am I best leaving these until the next major service?

The car has been faultless and drives great - all I’ve needed so far is a replacement battery. Just keen to maintain rather than feeling a need to have anything addressed.

Finally, any recommendations for good Porsche Indis around Essex/Hertfordshire? Was considering Friends Green - any experiences?

Picture below just ‘cos:

I would say major with plugs and belt.
Do you have any record of brake fluid changes? Also hows your aircon? Sometimes some fresh gas and lube in there wont do any harm.

Oh yeah? Is the 2yr servicing schedule not really relevant after this time then or just better to err on the side of caution?

No record of brake fluid change beyond the first few years. Brakes feel very good, no sponginess and quite a nice direct feel. Still worth doing?

Air con is all fine - I have invoices showing that the air condensers and all pipes were replaced, along with the coolant and an air con service just before I bought it in March this year, so hopefully all okay on that front for a good while now.

Should alternate major/minor shouldn’t it?

Yes regarding brake fluid to avoid bleed nipples seizing. Same with spark plugs every 4 years, even if low miles between services.

Transmission fluid also due at 10 years iirc.

I think plugs and belts are both overdue?

In which case, if you're keeping the car, I'd reset the clock and get the lot done - major including air filters, belts, plugs, air con and brake fluid.

Cool, thanks all! I’ll take the advice and get it booked in for a full freshen up in Jan then.

Has anyone had any experience with a good Porsche indi for the service in the South East? I’m Essex based but willing to travel around for somewhere great.

As others have said, you're due a major service plus

drive belt
Spark plugs, I've the same car but a year older and replaced the coil packs at the same time as the plugs this year as the indy said they weren't in good health, might want to budget that in.
Transmission oil is also overdue I'd get that done too.
Brake fluid

Gonna be a decent bill.

I should also have said they did a major service for my new to me 2010 987.2 last year which had 20,000 miles at the time and it was its first service outside OPC. Did brake fluid, brake lube, air on refresh, PDK oil change (should be done around 10th year), oil change, spark plugs, wheel alignment, etc. They said the drive belt was in good condition and did not need changed.

It should have had a Major service every 4 years and not 6. In some respect I can understand the logic with lower miles and out of OPC warranty but the risk can be the plugs sometimes seize in the head making them near impossible to get out without the risk of stripdown, hence Porsche always insist its 4yrs max. Given specialist servicing is less than half the costs of OPC I'd factor them in.

Brake fluid for nearly all cars is 2yrs max.
