Looking to get back in to Porsche ownership and can stretch to a 981 GT4. Car will do a few trackdays a year (4?) plus driving and touring.

Thinking of budget and how much typical running costs might be....

I previously owned a 996.2 GT3 for a few years which went on track about 4-5 times a year. Any thoughts on how a 981 GT4 running costs might compare to that?

I have a 2016 981 GT4 and I find the running costs very good. I have a Porsche warranty on the car which cost me £660 to renew for the year this year and I'll continue to renew the warranty as I have no intention of selling the car for some time. For me the warranty is a no-brainer at that cost annually as it's peace of mind should anything happen.

My last service was a 6 year service, which comprised of, oil & filter change, drive belt change and brake fluid change and that cost me £900, which again I don't think is too bad from an OPC. Indies may be cheaper but from the quotes I've had from some indies they do not really differ too much from OPC rates especially if you call around.

Obviously consumable costs like tyres etc. will be dependent on your usage.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Andy, that's helpful, pretty good price for OPC major service

I'm also looking at V6 350 Exiges and their service costs are pretty similar for a major 4y service

What's the road tax roughly if you don't mind me asking?

I've owned and tracked all 3 cars you mention over the last few years. One thing worth pointing out is that the Exige given its lower weight goes through consumables less quickly (brakes, tyres) than either Porker. Obviously dependent on how hard you're tracking it.

The biggest difference in running costs will be brakes. GT3 brakes on the GT4 so £4k for discs and pads all round.

You’ll prob want to add a Manthey kit or some way of increasing front camber if you’re using it on track regularly.

981 servicing costs arnt bad but I just had a major service on my 981 bgts that came to over 3k with a few consumables thrown in ( major service, front discs and pads, rear tyres, new AC condensers, ac protection grills) at an independent too.

They arnt crazy but make sure you have a realistic expectation that it will be a few k a year

Thanks, interesting that a later car like a 2017 V6 Exige I think will be £187 from next year!

Isn't it some inflated price for a new car plus another kicking for the next 5 years because you had the cheek to want to buy yourself a nice car (£40k+)?

Can I ask if that was Hatfield?

It was Porsche Colchester. I called East London, Cambridge and Colchester (all part of the same group) and their prices were within about £40 of each other. I chose Colchester simply because they were the closest to me, but only by a few miles, and the fact that I'd bought some things from their parts department previously.

As you say, similar money at East London who serviced mine.
