I'm surprised how many 981's haven't been specced with either the bluetooth or USB socket options.

How do Cayman/Boxster owners listen to music off their phone?

The AUX input is redundant since iPhone doesn't have a headphone socket. On my 987 I use a bluetooth reciever which plugs into the USB & AUX... if a 981 doesn't have the USB option then it means potentially having to plug the reciever into a portable battery, and then manually charge that every so often.

There should be a usb socket in the glove box, I use this to download my music into my library

I bought a 981 recently and every one I looked at had BT and a USB port.

You can use an aux port though, you can buy a plug in receiver
Simple one:

Alternatively , don’t buy a car without BT.

Mines got Bluetooth and usb that recognises my phone as ‘iPod’ when I plug in

There’s a couple of pretty widely fitted third party CarPlay modules available too, and guessing those could help! I keep thinking of putting one in my gts

I bought a simple Bluetooth receiver thing for the aux port. Works fine for listening to music.

Particular one I got isn’t on Amazon anymore but there will be plenty of others available.

I'm surprised this is such a thing.

Mines got it, but I never use it. I much prefer to download and assort music into folders and save it to a USB stick.

Unless you have Apple CarPlay (which 981s don't), then it's not possible to browse your phone's music library via PCM. Happy to be corrected of course smile

My Spyder has a “jukebox” accessed via usb in the glovebox - 30 or 40 GB from memory. So I’ve downloaded files to this which does allow you to browse albums, artists etc via PCM. Not sure if this was standard in a 981 or had to be optioned.

I got a spare iPhone 10 that sits on the dash for Spotify. Connects through cable to usb and appears as an iPod so that way it starts up quickly when I get in. The phone is connected via BT for calls but stays out of sight.

I understand that fitting the CarPlay mod isn’t possible if you have Bose for some reason….

My iPhone connects with the PCM on my 981 on the aux input. I can then play my Amazon music, or using the BBC Sounds app on the phone, listen to digital radio stations. Although over the Woodhead Pass and other out of the way places, the digital signal does drop out.
