981 Boxster GTS… am I going mad?
Discussion
I’m currently lusting after a 981 GTS that’s 7 years old. It’s beautiful. Just over 10k on the clock.
7 years old. And £62,0000
Is this madness?
If it was a bit cheaper I would already have bought it. But it’s the best one in the market currently and it looks superb.
But 62k?
I don’t even know how much this cost new.
Is it that special?

Market is crazy high right now. Depends if you think inflation, rate rises and the energy crisis will outweigh an apparent limited component supply. It could be that in a few months values will look very different, despite the car salesmen thread expecting them to continue rising forever…
Market is mad at the moment.
In July 2020 I paid £ 39,750 for my Speed Yellow Boxster GTS from Ashgoods, car had 25k ish miles on the clock, full loaded with GTS Interior and carbon trim. Beautiful car, on X73 suspension.
Sold it back to them a year later for a hefty profit and it sold immediately for just under £ 50k.
As said above, at this level, maybe £55k a low miles on is worth it (they are brilliant), not so sure over £60k, even with low miles.
However, for the right person, the right colour and spec I'm sure someone will be persuaded.
Fab little sports cars.

It looks like a stunning example. Great colour and spec especially with the x73 suspension to sharpen it up even more.
These are actually the only car at the moment that could tempt me out of my Cayman R, just to experience something different. (maybe with a manual box though for my personal preference).
I'd be very interested in Mr Verts view on this as I believe he has owned both before.
As for the question of price - It does feel overpriced, and not convinced its a £60+ model. But the market is mad, its a great low mileage example from an OPC. So will never be cheap.

Feeling I’ve missed the boat a bit and now all that’s left are those mega expensive gondola rides….
That was real value and must have felt amazing to make a profit.
It looks like a nice example, plus the confidence of buying from an OPC with two years Warranty.
However:
- It does seem expensive, even at the current inflated prices - especially as there is widespread expectation of a big price correction in the coming months
- It would therefore only be worth buying if you intended to use and enjoy it, without being precious about adding mileage. It won't be an investment.
- If so, I'd want the next Full (4 year) Service included, and to make sure it has new(ish) tyres all round - although tread depths might be OK, they should not more than 2 years old. Plus any other added value that can be negotiated
- No. of owners is a bit of a worry - average ownership is just over a year and 1600 mls, so no one has fallen in love with it. That may be due to the X73 suspension. Whilst some might like it, most UK roads are pretty poor, and it can be tedious.
If in doubt, wait.

That's Gen 1 V10 plus R8 money, seems crazy expensive I know which one I'd have.

Boy-oh-boy they sure are ugly looking. I'd go with the Boxster.
specsavers for you perhaps...a full blooded v10 vs a cooking flat 6...it's no contest. Anyone paying £60k plus for a 7 yo Boxster GTS needs their brains tested, I can appreciate that it's a quality car but not at that price.

7 years old, only 10k miles, yet 6 previous owners. I know such cars tend to change hands more often than run of the mill stuff, but is this normal and no cause for concern?
It'll likely be the X73 suspension. If you have any slightly loose teeth the x73 will remove them.for you..RSbandit said:

I don't dispute the engine size....thats not what I am commenting on. It is one god awful looking car.
Well I'm pretty sure you're in the miniority on that, I'd say the Spyder with roof down is the best looking variant...nobody would give a Boxster GTS a second glance next to one.RSbandit said:
