Buttons on steer wheel instead of flappy paddles…. Can that be changed? New steering wheel etc?

Seen some nice cars but the buttons totally put me off.

Thanks in advance for answering my ‘stupid question’…. smile

Yes, used to cost a bit over £1k at OPC's.

I got Parr to fit TechArt paddles to mine where the buttons used to be. £550. Kept multifunction steering wheel but now have paddles as well.

Had the gear button multi function wheel swapped to the sports Porsche paddle one on my 991. Best thing I ever did. Lost the multi function buttons on the new Sports wheel but only miss the vol wheel TBH and the little stick for the rest is so much easier to use on the move than the buttons were.

I did exactly that when I bought mine from the OPC, ended up with both wheels in the end.

I believe the wheel with the paddles on it is known as the Sport Design wheel.

That’s interesting to hear thanks.

I wonder how many buyers are like me, see cars with the buttons on the steering wheel, and move into the next car advertised…?

Total deal breaker for me.

Ditto on my old 981 GTS. Totally transforms the experience.

It’s also quite nice having a new steering wheel in a slightly older car, lifts the interior.

Any OPC can do it, shop around as prices vary WILDY!

Yes, it’s a deal breaker for me too, and I can’t comprehend why original buyers opted for the buttons. I’ve been looking at 981Ss recently, fancy PDK for a change and a fair amount have them. Guess it’s just factoring the cost to change to the Sport Design wheel with paddles into the purchase price.

Thankfully they switched to paddles in the 718s, and reversed the push forward to change up gear selector.

Agree the buttons are awful.

I have a 981 PDK without paddles so the multi wheel. I will say 2 things about this standard setup:

1. I do quite like the heated steering wheel. It is one of the most impressive options I have in my car. It is a soft top so if I do decide to lower the roof in very cold weather the heated wheel really is a great bonus. Otherwise driving in massive ski mits is a bit daft. I've had my roof down when it's close to 0c and at speeds above 60mph you start to get brain freeze.

2. I never use the buttons for gear changing. I never feel the need to override the car's brain. If I'm driving quickly I just leave it in Sport and forget about gears. If I'm pootling around then I do occasionally use the lever to switch to neutral when braking firmly to prevent the car getting over excited and dropping down gears expecting an agressive relaunch which I know isn't coming.
