How difficult is it to change the coffin arms on a 981? I know it's only two bolts and a ball joint, but is there anything particular to be aware of? I presume a balljoint splitter is needed?

Looking to buy OEM replacements, but I'd be interested to hear people's experiences with aftermarket alternatives.

Id look at Spyder Performance in the uK.
https://www.spyderperformance.co.uk/?make=5346&amp... . They have their own branded arms that are apparently made on the same production line. Buying theirs will not mean you find your pants around your ankles post purchase.

I have used them in the past and their service is excellent as are thier parts.

Agree with above, service was excellent when I refreshed the front of my 996.

I found the coffin arms relatively simple to get out and you will almost certainly need a ball joint splitter.

Thanks for the suggestion.

My car is under the extended warranty, so I need OEM parts to maintain it, but will they ever realise? At £270 (after discount) per side, it might be worth taking the risk.

Am I right in saying the control arm needs to be under load before tightening the bolts (i.e. jack it up into a similar position as if the car was on the ground with the wheel on).

I did my coffin arms and tuning forks on my 987.2 S, they do need tightening under load, just put the jack under them and lift the car.
Be sure to have the geometry sorted after… (replace tyres before that, if they have been worn on the insides).
