Thank you to all those who helped with my questions over the last 3 months, finally found a used car with a spec I’m happy with, gave up trying to get an allocation. My first and likely my last Porsche!

Guards Red, Clubsport, 918 seats, fancy lights PDLS+, Bose stereo, some nice stitching and on the wheel, carbon interior package, sports chrono, two zone AC, folding mirrors, parking sensors, cruise, 5.6k mileage.

Buying used was very hard work given the quantity of options and found it a ball ache, many didn’t have the two zone AC, wanted ceramics, clubsport and Yellow or Green. I just couldn’t find a car with them all on under 100k my maximum budget and two zone ac in a bright colour.

Car will be going to Topaz to get PPF, this car is a B road fun car for me so needs maximum protection. On this matter what’s the best road tyre, I’ll be ditching the cups straight away as can be a bit wet where I live in the lakes.

Cant wait to drive it next week! I’m so excited mega purchase for me, never be able to afford this type of car again. My days of trackdays are long gone but will take it to Silverstone, Spa and Nurburgring.

What is the best road tyre?

Should I join Porsche GB club or any other forums?

Thanks again

Matt

Amazing, congrats! PS4s seem to be the road tyre of choice if not using the cups smile

Congrats! That looks fantastic!

+1 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. I found them confidence inspiring in our mixed climate.

Hoping I get lucky with the tyre lottery when my car arrives.

Wouldn’t bother doing PPF on a car that’s done nearly 6k

Save your money…Drive it and enjoy it!

Problem is the roads up here are littered with stones, do drive outs with mates, the sills and bonnet will look a mess in no time, I know people will say respray etc but this is an essential for me.

Don’t worry it’ll be driven and enjoyed biggrin

After experiencing Cup2 tyres in a downpour on the road at a roundabout I decided they needed to go. Eventually went for Michelin MPS4S which are N rated, still a semi track tyre but much better rated for wet use.

Good choice same as mine bar CS had a Guards 981 GT4 now 718 GT4 which I much prefer.

Welcome to the club!

Great spec GT4 in the best colour. I assume you bought it from Cardiff which was very realisically priced IMO.

Yes I did and to be fair they have been excellent to deal with. Shame I live so far away in the Lake District but got a fabulous route planned home.

Thanks everyone, the last time I bought a red car was 1993 when I bought a Rover Metro biggrin, love the colour. Honestly so excited, like a kid walking into a sweet shop for the first time, looking forward to collection day.

Brilliant! Glad you’ve finally got one. Another vote for the PS4S, first thing I did when I bought mine was to ditch the Cup 2’s. Sadly I’m having to sell mine as I’ve got a back injury and the 918 seats and I aren’t getting along too well. Enjoy yours!

Could I ask what the differences are that make you prefer the 718 GT4? Are they significant?

Cheers.

I have a 981 and have driven the 718.
981 sounds better
981 has less power and torque
981 has a very heavy clutch and steering - 718 control weights are lighter.
Styling differences
718 modern infotainment (CarPlay etc)
Interior is very similar
It’s a deeply personal choice as they are, overall, incredibly similar.

Lovely car and colour, well done!

I assume the "dual zone ac" requirement comes from having to appease the OH? Otherwise seems a weird point to get stuck over with in the scheme of such a fine car...

That'll do nicely!

Enjoy. Should be a belting drive back up through Wales to the Lakes.

It's mostly about the engine, and out of the box the 4.0 is a huge step above the 3.8 IMHO. The PASM setup is more refined in the 718 too without losing the ability to handle fantastically when "on it".
