Tyres for Cayman S 987.2
Discussion
Tyres will need replacing later this year I suspect, so what is best for my Cayman S 987.2 2010.
Currently have Pilot Sport Cup 2 on front and Pilot Super Sports on rear.
Both seem to provide incredible grip, although I don’t have reference point as it came with them when I bought it 6m ago.
Obv I don’t know how well they perform in the wet as it’s mainly been used when dry so far, however come the winter….
I read that Pilot Sport 4 S are the “go to” these days. Although not specifically a Porsche fitment, these still work well? Anything else compare?
Or should I replace with Pilot Sport Cup 2 all round? These are quite pricey in comparison though! That said, only do a few k a year……

If you only ever drive in decent weather then Cups all round I reckon. If you drive in all conditions, PS4S based on what I’ve read. I’ve only experienced PS4 - on a couple of Golf Rs and my 987.1.S - I rate them and PS4S are even better by all accounts.
Whatever you go for start monitoring prices now as they tend to vary a lot. If you are in no rush you could potentially save a fair few £ depending on when you buy them.

So far not done that many miles hence so far mostly dry weather, but that will creep up.
I will be using throughout winter too so will ultimately get a good mix of conditions. If it was only to be used in dry and/or summer, then the cups do seems to give a lot of grip! but a little less won't be a major issue if it's a little more playful as a result...

In the 997 world, Pilot Sport 4S are generally considered to be about as good as it gets for general UK road use with a track day or two thrown in. I see no reason why they shouldn't work well on a 987, assuming the sizes are available.I will be using throughout winter too so will ultimately get a good mix of conditions. Good choice on the PS4S tyres, I've noticed they give out poor performance when it's really cold (getting towards 0 degC) so watch out for that.
They'll be good apart from that great grip wet or dry in normal temperatures.
I'd pop the same on the front by the way or you'll be driving in understeer city all the time.
Dunc.

The front has Michelin cup 2 tyres so a lot of grip (at least in the dry) there and have plenty of tread so wasn’t going to waste a load more unnecessarily.
When they do wear out, will put the same P4S on there too.
The 987 usually came with Pilot Sport 2 as this is the recommended tyre and if you have Porsche warranty you have no option but to go for them on a 19" wheel as the PS4S on 19"do not have a Porsche rating they do on a 20" i think When they do wear out, will put the same P4S on there too.
I am about to change my Spyder tyres and will go for PS4S as now 12yr old and no warranty will also buy the same tyres for my 981 20" ...note Michelin now do a PS5.

Interesting thread. I urgently need to change the fronts on my 2010 Cayman S running on 19"
Not sure what is on there currently as its at the MOT station, but think I will hunt out some PS4S
ETA I see on Black circles they has a Pilot Sport 5. Are they an improvement?

Rumour has it that a PS5S is in the pipeline. Perhaps
