I wonder if, as a result of that, the cars with a VIN from Zuffenhausen will hold a bit more of a premium that those from the other factory.

Don't think I see that happening.

When buying new: "Please can I have one from the original factory?". "Sir - we can't define that on the order. Do you still want to place it?"

When buying used: Can't see anyone passing on the price / spec they want on one because it's from the 'wrong' factory, and instead holding out for one from the 'right' one, or settling for a compromised spec from the 'right' factory instead. They'll go for the spec / price they want.

Is it me, or is that a complete non-story?

Caymans have been built at both Stuttgart and Osnabruck in recent years anyway, so all they're doing is upping production of Caymans at Osnabruck and/or adding Boxsters to the line. Unless I've missed something?

Its a bit of a (minor) story to me as the 718 line is the smallest selling in the range, plus I had understood its a bit of a slow seller given the 4cyl engine.

Internet myth. If you look at the actual sales prior to the 4.0, they actually sold more 718s than 981s.

If they're having to expand production again this late in the model life then clearly there is still strong demand? Quite amazing really, must be fantastic cars.

Maybe so yep. I did hear that the Cayman R was built in two different factories, Germany and Finland and the German ones have a premium over the Fins. But I can’t claim this as fact, just something I heard. I guess if that was true then maybe non applicable to the 718 VIN which is less rare.

Think it only might happen in this instance if it was found that a significant cars from one factory had issues vs the other, otherwise people will still focus on when can I get one (new), and what's the spec vs my ideal (used) / what's the price.
