Hi all, I’ve struggled to find an answer on this - what seems to be a strangely divisive topic - of removing the rear wiper on a 987 Cayman. The couple of threads I’ve found across a mix of forums always skips straight to impassioned owners of Caymans with rear wipers stating how they don’t understand why anyone would want to remove theirs.

Well… I do. It’s a bit of an eyesore and I’d like it gone. Trouble is, I can’t find anything by way of a “made to fit” bung/plug. Most cars (997 911s seem to be a popular example) have a neat little “wiper delete” kit which you can buy with a weather sealed bung and calming nut. Has anyone come across such a thing for the 987? Failing that, has anyone measured the hole and/or plugged theirs with something generic that has worked?

I’m loathed to remove the boot lid trim and take the wiper unit/motor off until I know I can plug it!

Here’s my offending article:

Thanks in advance

You could remove the wiper arm and blade as stopgap?

Order a replacement OE grommet, as shown in your photo.

Once you have that you have the exact size you need to fill the hole, buy a generic blanking gromment that size and fit it.

I think a normal rubber grommet would probably be the least obvious/offensive given you have a dark coloured car and it allows the next owner to easily put it back.

Seems like a simple and logical to me.

If I can inspire someone to respond with absolutely zero value to a post then I guess you’re right - anything’s possible.

With so many parts shared between the 997 and 987, I would be surprised if the any kits are not compatible.

Thanks in advance

This. If they don't have a blank listed, they used to make one for you.

Assuming you can id the hole size, these guys seem to make some fairly robust ones.

I know you don’t want to, but removing the wiper to measure it and sticking a small black Gaffer tape plaster on top temporarily to waterproof it, may be your only real option.

Alternatively you could buy a box of assorted blind bungs and use on if those until you an find a less flexible solution.

How's the badge and lettering removal going? smile

Don't laugh but how about a tap sink hole cover. Cut the threaded length to size first.

Plastic or metal, can be rubber washer sealed from below, easily sprayed the same colour as your paintwork before fitting and no hassle to remove. No chance of accidentally snagging/popping it out when cleaning either.

You could stick a Porsche crest badge over the hole.
The one that normally fits on the bonnet should be just right.

Could you really live with one badge to one side, I certainly couldn't?

Or compound your mistake by doing what BMW did on the M1.

The OP is already in the process of removing a tasteless [accessory] boot badge so zero chance of moving it to one side.

Think Scrump is being mischievous...
