Cayman and security (bear with me...)
Discussion
Hoping to hear your thoughts on this....
So what additional security do you use on your Cayman / Boxster? I'm now in the truly lucky position to have my Cayman build slot but then I thought "hang on, this is the most expensive car you've ever owned, not to mention your first brand new car"
How am I going to secure it?
So I just wondered what people here have done? I'm thinking of a Ghost Immobiliser II and the trusty steering lock.
Cheers!

Yup! That would do it!
I'm guessing very few here bother with the Tracker? We were burgled last year and had both cars stolen off the drive.
(Kind of dreading the insurance quote to be fair!)

I think there are plenty of other small tracking units that enable you to monitor your car or receive notifications on your phone, but how many are officially sanctioned by your insurer is a different matter altogether.

To be honest, it was a wake up call. Crime happens and thinking it won't happen to you is great right up until it happens. Should have got a decent alarm system and a bollard when we first moved in, didn't and have made up for that now.I think there are plenty of other small tracking units that enable you to monitor your car or receive notifications on your phone, but how many are officially sanctioned by your insurer is a different matter altogether.
Not saying the house is now impenetrable but someone's going through a lot of locked doors to get keys etc.
Then again with your average M3 / M4 at over 75k maybe I'm over thinking this.

If you're thinking of adding a Ghost system, check with Porsche. Any meddling with the electronics is very likely to screw up a large part of your new car warranty.
I think activating the Porsche tracker and using physical systems are probably the best you can do.
I think you're right. Last thing I really need is that sort of drama. I think activating the Porsche tracker and using physical systems are probably the best you can do.
Cheers for the sanity check and comments peeps
I have the Porsche tracking system dealer-fitted (was operated by Cobra, now Vodafone). Never stolen so I can’t tell you how well the police tracking works, but I can tell you that if I forget the dongle, or don't leave it in when I leave the car at OPC for service and they move it, then I get a call from the control centre within a couple of minutes

BMW 440i and a M2 Competition (plus an unhealthy detailing habit...)

I'll chat to the Sales Exec at the weekend about that and get an idea of the costs. I'm guessing that's an annual subscription?T1berious said:

I’ve just taken delivery of a new GT4. Insurance mandated a Tracker with driver key fob, so way easier to go with the Porsche Vodafone fitted one for now. Cost is £235 for year oneI also installing a post tomorrow just for deterrent effect - £85
…and I use a steering lock because it’s so easy why wouldn’t, I 🙂

Understand your concern - who wouldn't be with what had happened to you before, but the factory security is actually pretty damned good. Hopefully you haven't gone for keyless entry, if you have keep the key in a faraday pouch religiously when not in use.
Thieves know they'll only get the car away using the OE keys, so keep them safe, and keep your driver (tracker) card separately, and never leave it in the car, or with the keys. If really really worried whip a fuse out, easily done and no warranty concerns.
If the OPC agrees to aftermarket security being OK, make sure you get something official in writing, and don't necessarily go for the most obvious option. But remember Porsche aren't all that significant compared to other makes. Have a google, you may surprise yourself.

When my neighbours RS3 got stolen off their drive a few years ago they asked the police why they hadn’t targeted anything else nearby like my Boxster.
Police said that Porsches are much less theft risk than other German fodder as there’s less demand for parts and they’re rubbish for filling up with a load of lads tooled up for burglaries.
May explain the lower insurance premium.

Has to be said, I got a quote for insurance (6 points + big theft claim) and was shocked at the quote coming in at much less then I was expecting. Only £400 more than the quote on the M2C.Police said that Porsches are much less theft risk than other German fodder as there’s less demand for parts and they’re rubbish for filling up with a load of lads tooled up for burglaries.

Car is closer than it looks - you couldn’t drive round the post…..& Tracker fob enabled…
Spoke to the OPC and got the info regarding the Tracker etc. I'll be going for a Disklok on the GTS. Already got a post so I'll be mirroring what you've gone.|https://thumbsnap.com/tTDHmzrH[/url]
