Hi All

Has anyone retrofitted Car play to the standard audio or PCM 3.0 with success? And if so what option did you go for?

I want to keep things looking as OEM as possible

Thanks

Yes. I first bought the JoyeAuto unit, fitted it and found it a bit unreliable - flickering at the bottom of the screen, abruptly switching on and off due to it being tapped into the fuse box and the wiring loom was strangely designed (it has a 3.5mm lead that you connect to one side and the other, why didn't they just feed it into the rest of the wiring they provide?). Oh and their support was nonexistent.

Anyway I then swapped it out for the NM Automotive unit (which is basically the Unichip setup if you Google around) with the benefit of warranty and support in the UK.

Again I fitted it myself and if you're used to building PCs or similar it's straightforward (comes with excellent instructions). Although there are fitters who can do it (have a search on the forum as a few people have the upgrade). Better wiring loom, not tapped into the fuse box and it's smarter about switching itself on and off at the appropriate time. No display problems and slightly better sound quality over the JoyeAuto I thought. Both wireless with the option to plug into USB-A if you want to power the phone for longer trips.

Has transformed my 987.2 without losing the OEM look and means it still uses the factory bluetooth (and easy to switch back to the standard user interface to see my trip computer, use the radio and the like). The screen isn't very good when it comes to swiping as it's not capacitive touch but I almost never need to do it. Surprisingly high quality display given its age.

I have bought the unit from Design911 and it arrived yesterday. Plus I have got a camera from ebay.

Hopefully will be fitting them both to my 987.2 today or tomorrow. Depends if I have got the balls to remove the rear bumper biggrin

I assumed it was the same unit as Nmautomotive, turns out its the Joyeauto one.

Be careful when unclipping the white plastic ribbon clips in the PCM unit - the legs at each side are pretty fragile and prone to breaking which makes putting the cables back in somewhat trickier. Ask me how I know! biggrin

Took me an absolute age to get the stereo out.
Couldn't work out how to get the left side trim out, plus one of the circular bolts which releases the stereo is broken.

Installing the cables inside the stereo was really easy, although i am used to microelectronics however it was a faff to route all of the cabling behind the stereo, it is now secured on the drivers side.

It was a bit of a surprise to need to replace one of the fuses to get an extra power. Not sure why they couldn't take that from the Porsche loom.

However having the ignition on/off etc. for so long the install killed the battery and I couldn't launch the joyeauto, Couldn't start the car and the display is now reading PSM failure, Drive off sensor alert and Steering angle sensor failure. I think these relate to the battery being low. I jumped the car took it for a drive and all seems to be working fine, however I didn't take it far and I don't think I have fully charged the battery. so again this morning the car failed to start.

New charger purchased and once the battery is back to full power I am hoping it should all be fine. The PSM failure appears to be caused by low voltage. So I think is because the battery needs a good charge.

The problem I have now is that the fuel light is on so I can't take it for a decent drive as I don't have enough fuel biggrin

I had the same battery issue at first and must have picked an empty fuse slot (bottom row) that didn’t shut down the power to the Joyeauto.
I picked a different slot and checked that the Wi-Fi signal was disconnected when ignition was off this time.
Now it’s all good 👍🏼 . I use the fuse box in the passenger footwell and a slot halfway up the board - can’t remember which number.
