I am interested in this too. I have been looking at the NM Automotive CarPlay/Android Auto upgrade but I would need to get professionally fitted as I don’t fancy doing it myself.
Anyone done this or have a better alternative?
just looked at that doesn't look bad at all, any idea what is involved in fitting ?Anyone done this or have a better alternative?

I had the NM system fitted to my 2016 981. I had a look at the fitting instructions but handed it over to someone who knows what they are doing. The head unit has to have a new printed circuit board installed, and there is a small mic added plus a USB port in the glovebox (for firmware updates) and some other stuff. The mic sits out of eyesight in an area obscured by the left side of the steering wheel.
It isn’t compatible with keeping a Porsche warranty AFAIK.
The system is wireless. The phone and head unit do a handshake over Bluetooth then switch to a wifi connection broadcast by the head unit. The Carplay menu sits behind the AUX channel of PCM 3 - select AUX and you’re into it. Select a different source and you’re back to PCM 3. Control is by touchscreen or you can use the non-volume rotary dial to move around.
I've had the NMAutomotive unit put in my Cayman S. It has refreshed the car and brought it bang up to date, with back to old PCM on the few times I need it. Has worked almost flawlessly - I've had a few times where I've had to force the wireless connection to my phone to refresh but I understand that it is the occasional blip with any wireless Carplay system.
I also had front and back cameras put in which again integrate beautifully. Mine was fitted by Sextons in London - a bit of a trek for me but I can't recommend them enough, they fitted this, the cameras and front and back dsashcams and you would not have had a clue they had been in the car.
Happy to answer any questions if I can

It's probably worth clarifying this a bit:Porsche Extended Warranty said:
A claim made under Your Policy shall be invalid to the extent that the defect results from any of the following:
So it doesn't invalidate your extended warranty as a whole (a common misconception), but if a fault develops specifically as a result of you fitting the unit, that fault won't be covered (full exclusions text here). In practice that probably means that if your PCM develops a fault in future it won't be covered, which doesn't seem unreasonable to me.- ...
- Non-Porsche Genuine Parts have been fitted to Your Vehicle
- ...
It's also possible that if an OPC sees non-standard parts fitted they may not allow the car to pass an 111-point check, but given that these days you don't need an 111-point check to renew a warranty (you only need one to put a warranty on an un-warranty'd car) that's much less of an issue. Also, based on my previous experience of 111-point checks, I'd say the chance of an OPC spotting this particular mod is close to zero.
Here's a video showing the "tricky" part of fitting the NMAutomotive kit - putting the new PCB into the head unit:

I've fitted one myself to my 987.2 and it's almost exactly the same process. If you're comfortable building a PC then you won't find it difficult as the instructions are very detailed (other than worrying about damaging the PCM and the cost to replace it if you do). The time consuming part was hiding away the box and making sure the cabling is neatly routed out of the way. If any of that makes you nervous it's well worth paying someone to fit it for you.
Totally transformed my car and with the better display on a 981 it'll be even better (swiping on the old PCM 3.0 isn't the best). Nice to be able to switch back to the standard display if need be and it uses the PCM bluetooth for calls which is handy. Well worth it and has run flawlessly for me over the past year.

I fitted a Sony XAV 550 system to my 981. Pretty straightforward. I have DAB and Carplay. Also drags the cabin into the 2020's.
Just works without dismembering the standard Porsche unit. Fitted two examples now into my previous 987.2 and now my 981

Any chance you could get a picture of it please Andygo? Currently having the NM vs Aftermarket debate and would love to see what a modern aftermarket unit looks like in the 981 cabin. Thank you.Just works without dismembering the standard Porsche unit. Fitted two examples now into my previous 987.2 and now my 981

..............I am tempted to order the isudar kit up at £240 shipped and fit it myself more I watch the video the more straightforward it's looking, seems to be plug and play.

No external unit or external power feed should make the fitting much simpler.https://www.isudar.com/collections/wireless-carpla...
£240 sounds like good value too.
I think you should take one for the team, buy it, fit it and report back
I fitted the same head unit albeit in a gen 1 987 but works seamlessly with the Apple car play function and with the correct adaptors it’s all plug and play 👍
