Hi All

Went into OPC to sign final docs before picking my new car up on Saturday, and was looking at taking out the GAP/Asset Protection and Tyre insurance. I mentioned that I intend to take the car on a couple of track days throughout the year (it's what a GT4 is for!) and the sales man said that the GAP doesn't protect you when on track, and the Tyre Insurance is completely invalid if you take the car on track, and they are able to tell via the tyre wear (cup 2s on the car, never had cup 2s before but assume they wear out quick due to soft compound)

Has anyone got any alternatives to the ones OPC offer, to provide GAP that includes track day cover, and if anyone does some sort of tyre insurance that cover track days?

Thanks in advance

Plenty of policies have agreed value or “back to invoice” or new cars which is effectively GAP. I know Hiscox include two years “back to invoice” or a total loss on a new car. On a GT4 which is presumably above list at the moment you would probably want to be looking at agreed value.

Tyre’s that have been on track definitely do show signs of track wear.

I doubt you'll find GAP cover for track days, given that the excess is usally 10-15% of the value of the car for an on-track claim rather than £500 or whatever your on-road excess is. For on-road cover, go for ALA Gap Cover - there's a Pistonheads discount.

For tyre insurance, I wouldn't bother for road or track use personally. Punctures can be repaired if they're on a safe part of tyre.

Thank you, will check Hiscox out, probably not worth having the tyre insurance if I want to use on track!

Will check out ALA as never heard of them, my salesman said try and find a GAP that includes track day cover, but if it doesn't exist it doesn't exist!

As you say probably not worth getting the tyre insurance, as once I take the car on track they invalidate it anyways, so would just be throwing money down the drain

Do you need GAP insurance on a GT4? I mean anything can happen to the market, but they don't exactly seem to be depreciating very fast.

PCGB insurance with Lockton is back to invoice for two years or you can agree a value with them if the car is worth more than you paid for it.
