Porsche 987.2 Boxster Spyder - Voltage/Alternator issues....
Discussion
Hi there
My 987.2 2010/11 Boxster Spyder has some weird voltage issue where the dash will start clicking in and out, even worse power can sometimes cut out, it is more emphasized the harder you press the throttle or the higher the revs are, at other times the car will run totally flawless.
So far I've changed batteries, was fine for a short while, I've left the car on trickle charge, but it seems the battery is not the issue.
Yesterday car was fine, today pulled car out of garage and noticed the dash go off as it started and could hear it clicking slightly, so I grabbed a multimeter and the car was only reading 12-13v car running, switch off and voltage remained same.
Re-started car, lots of error messages and voltage now reading 15v car running.
So it seems to me like the alternator is kicking in and out, from google searching I've read that Porsche will just swap the alternator out, but the actual issue tends to be the voltage regulator unit which cost a fraction. Then its a case of remove alternator, swap out voltage regulators and refit, hope its fixed.
Any people here had similar issues with a Boxster? How did you fix it?
Also can anyone share a link to the correct voltage regulator unit for my 2010/11 Boxster Spyder 3.4DFI 320HP car please?

Last year, once a month or so, it would take three or four attempts to start up my 987.2 Cayman. Until then, as I turned the key, there was no clicking or other sounds, no dashboard lights, just nothing. The OPC switched out the alternator. I always suspected that was overkill. Apparently it is.
Lots of threads on DIY if you're that I climbed on changing the voltage regulator on boxa.net

It always start without an issue because the battery is not the problem, its when it is running it the electric supply can come and go like flicking a light switch rapidly and to keep going you have to crawl along as giving it some gas then makes the engine cut out too due to the car have no electric supply at all as I guess when it revs the voltage regulator/alternator is not working as expected. Some days its trouble free, other days its not but it seems to be happening more often now.
I am going to try swapping out the regulator see if that sorts it and make sure earth strap and all power cables are firmly secured.
