Hi all,

Got a GT4 incoming and obviously not having apple car play I’m going to need a holder for maps with my iPhone 12. Ideally looking for a MagSafe magnetic holder that’s strong and not going to fall off on spirited drives down bumpy be roads. The magnetic part is not a must have though prefer MagSafe vs using lead. I’ve had various holders that clip into the vents but they all fall out or break, or the phone get hot in the winter and cold in the summer :-) . Been good to have something more in eye line for safety reasons and don’t want a screen mount one.

Any recommendations?
Thanks !

I got a holder from Halfords of all places and cost £40. The holder itself is powered by a usb lead rather than having to plug the phone in. Your phone then (easily) clips into the holder and is charged. Hasn't let go of the phone and doesn't noticeably wobble.

Apple do a Belkin one, but all the pix I have seen show it to be white. Yuk.

Belkin also do a silver/grey "Pro" model that's a good bit smaller than the white one, but neither one acts as a charger unfortunately - both need a separate lightning cable into the phone.

I've got both and the white one seems to hold onto the phone much better than the grey "pro" model, probably due to it having a larger mounting surface.

-- Edit --

Just had a quick look and Belkin now do a model that charges via MagSafe too, might be the answer.

I went down the quad lock route for exactly that reason. Works well.

Thanks all. Quad lock looks solid. Anyone got one of these ?

Seem popular across the pond. Bit expensive, but the quad lock adds up to about the same and at least not screen mounted

A guy on the German Porsche forums is selling a contraption whereby the phone holder is inserted into the cup holder. That may sound bizarre, but I can assure you it works perfectly. The advantage is that you don't glue anything to the dash.

His cart program only ships to German-speaking countries but you might consider shooting him an email. IME he is very reliable.

Recently fitted one of these; pricey but a secure attachment with bolts - be aware though that the usb on mine does not have enough juice to power the mag safe so has to be plumbed into the cigarette socket in the armrest. Also there are too fittings to choose from - up by the pcm or down by the arm rest. More discreet and secure than clip in versions imho.

Great idea, it wouldn’t take a genius to adapt another readily available phone holder to something that fits into the cup holder.

Ah good to know about the usb. I was under the impression the renline didn’t have a MagSafe and it was just magnetic? I did see some who put one on though https://www.macanforum.com/threads/custom-apple-ma...

You have to buy the mount and the MagSafe adaptor if you want to charge without using a wire into the phone itself. But I found the magnet on the mount alone would not hold through a silicone case so it would mean adding the metal plate supplied to the case which would then entail having to remove the case to charge magnetically outside the car.

The Brodit mount fouled on selecting reverse so would be ok for PDK but I think you’re looking at a 981 gt4.

I have this in 997 and 991. Works well bought directly from Rennline. Expensive but does what it says on tin well.

Yes gt4. So what did you do in the end? Did you go with the MagSafe adapter? Is it strong enough to hold the phone on a bumpy road?

Yes I have the MagSafe adaptor and mount - feels like it’ll do the job.

Ha yes I see it. Blimey £125 all in for a phone mount . Probably the best solution IF that MagSafe can hold it well enough
