986 gear change cable ends

I am in the process of a clutch change on a 2.5 1999 Boxster. I popped the cable ends off the balls on the linkage that is bolted to the transmission. Looking inside the cable end shows that the white teflon cup has a split. it's not smashed or in multiple pieces but there is a crack from the edge to the center of the cup. I don't know if it has been split for a while, or whether it broke as the result of being brittle and was stressed during the process of being popped off the ball. Does this need to be changed?
thanks
