991.2 S to GT4 - anyone done this?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm considering getting out of my 991.2 manual S and getting a GT4. The main reason is I am looking for something more engaging. The S is not a bad car and is great for daily duties (not that I have to commute anywhere mind) and I can get the kid(s) in the back when needed, however I find the steering dead around the center and a bit lifeless. Also that engine is definitely in the wrong place :-) . I have an Elise for the weekend so the GT4 would be for everything else. I realise I'll be loosing a lot of low down torque and the gearing is longer but I don't mind working for the performance (I think).
Anyone done similar and could comment on your experience?
Anyone running one on MP4S rather than the Cup 2's? I used to run an Evora 410 on the Cups and whilst brilliant in the dry they where no fun at all in the wet. For those who do run MP4S do you loose some of the steering feel/turn in?

I went from 997 to 981 GT4 and the GT4 does not have that rear heavy feel that for me felt wrong. Both the 991 and 992 have improved but the 992 C2S is now far too civilised for a sports car! The GT4 gearing is fine, never a problem and the gearchange is lovely.
I run two sets of wheels Cup 2 and MP4S.

Sorry to hijack OP, but you did ask about MPS4s ...Can you tell us about the MPS4s on the GT4 Nick? I went for a hoon round mid-Wales in the cold/wet in my GT4 on Cup2s and had a few rather exciting moments trying to keep up with my mate in his C4S.
Tempted to switch to MPS4s when the Cup2s die, but don't really want to lose out too much on the track performance. Only had the car a couple of months so not been on track yet.
OP, apologies for slight thread hijack.
I too run MPS4Ss on my 981 GT4 (also have the Cup 2's in the garage) and I can honestly say the 4Ss are a brilliant road tyre and are excellent in the wet and the current conditions the roads are currently in. They are definitely a lot more confidence inspiring than the Cup 2's in conditions we currently have.

This. I wrote off my previous GT4 in standing water. First thing I did when I got my new one was change to the PS4S. They’re brilliant and no loss of feel or feedback.I too run MPS4Ss on my 981 GT4 (also have the Cup 2's in the garage) and I can honestly say the 4Ss are a brilliant road tyre and are excellent in the wet and the current conditions the roads are currently in. I'm also thinking of moving from a 997GTS manual to a GT4 as I don't think I can justify the premium to a GT3. Would be the fun car, as I have a Cayenne for daily duties.
I've had the GTS since it was 6 months old and love it. I guess I've got to that stage of thinking I need some shiny new clothes! Am I mad to think about changing? Not driven a GT4 yet, all thoughts on the differences from the GTS welcome............
