Hello guys! I've had my 2006 Cayman S for about four months now and I love the thing to death! However, as the 17 year old owner of a financial mistake, the masculine urge to make my car louder has hit me hard. If I could get my hands on a used PSE, could I do the install myself provided I had a lift and I was somewhat mechanically inclined? How much would a dealer install cost? Trying to keep costs down so I can still afford to make payments smile thought about Carnewal, but I would like to keep the car OEM if possible for when I inevitability have to sell it to buy a family oriented car frown Any advice is greatly appreciated; PSE, exhaust in general, life (gosh knows I need the last one apparently). Thanks in advance!

Also, what difference would a PSE make to sound? I've watched YouTube videos on it, but every one seems different. Volume? More defined crackles and pops on downshifts? Tone? All of the above?

A few years back I priced a retrofit PSE for my 987.2 the OPC wanted over £2k for the job...so it will probably be a lot more now.

Oh boy, yeah that's a no go. Better start learning how to install I guess laugh seems to be next to no info on it (at least on 987.1 s) so may be a learn as you go situation.

This is Gert’s site - http://www.carnewal.com/Exhaust#987 - he is a very well respected fiddler of Porsche exhausts...look on Youtube for cars fitted with them, lovely sound.

You can buy a pre-modified one of him then send your exhaust back as part exchange...or if you fancy a road trip drive over and he will fit it for you.

Awesome, thanks! I definitely need to look more into it. I've heard it described as basically factory sound, but deeper and more crackly. Definitely what I'm looking for.

And I feel like a drive there would get me a bit wetter than I'd like to be laugh I'm an American so I'd be shipping my exhaust. Any knowledge on whether you can test the exhaust and send it back if it's not what you're looking for (provided it's in the same condition it arrived in)? Might be a stupid question, sorry if so

Ah, great! Saw them but figured I'd correspond with Gert a bit if possible about the exhaust, ask a few questions, then perhaps order through Cantrell. Unless there's a benefit to shipping to Belgium of course.

I have a used (30k) factory PSE Back boxes and rear pipe sections that I took off when I fitted my Capristo system. This was an easy job and plugged straight into the PSE factory system, so can still turn it on and off from the dash mounted button. If you are interested I would consider a sale. It’s from a Boxster 3.4 S Gen II by the way.

Unfortunately due to recent repair costs and car payments, I'm not in a place where I can buy right now (big emphasis on right now). May very well be a few months until I am, I'm trying to map it out to plan how much I need to save at the moment. However, if you were ok with waiting a few months (not holding it for me obviously, if someone else comes by by all means go for it) I'd be happy to buy from you. Not sure if this platform supports PMs, but if you are ok with that perhaps you could send me your email and we could discuss things a bit more thoroughly!

Edit: I have a gen 1, I'll look into whether it fits the same or not. I think I heard somewhere that it may not be the same?

Thanks,

Rowan

Sure no probs it’s not on the open market, But it’s in my garage just sitting there. By all means check it will work. I tried to PM through your profile, but seems you have switched off the email function, if you open that channel I will PM you my contact details. BR

Also did some digging, and it looks like provided you have a 9A1 engine and I have a m97, our exhausts should be identical from the cat on backwards. Fingers crossed

How do I find out if I have a 9A1 engine?

This is from one day's research, but looks like every second gen car (987.2 and 997.2) came with the 9a1. Only difference in exhaust was that there were no cats on the headers of the gen 2 cayman. I do have an m97 engine, and as long as you haven't done a swap you have a 9a1, so exhaust should fit!

Edit: sorry for responding so early in the morning, forgot that UK is 5 hours ahead of US.
