Hi All, I am looking for a very low mileage one owner mint 981 Boxster GTS.

Do I go for Manual or PDK....?
Do I buy from OPC, General Trader or Private....?
Anything to look out for.........?

I have been to see a few cars but all have been at Independent Traders and have had 4,5,6 previous owners, none of the cars I would consider have been mint even though advertised as so. Any help advice greatly appreciated.

Mainly "overpaying". There are some truly absurd prices being asked for those cars.

Essentially you're looking for a needle in a haystack, and if you decide you want a manual that'll be an even smaller needle in an even bigger haystack.

Problem you have is that a new GTS now has a 2024 lead time and the price has recently risen to £68570 and despite winter and Xmas rapidly approaching prices are rising quickly.

Unfortunately prices will continue rising for the forseeable especially as we get into peak buying season early 2022.

Essentially you're looking for a car that's barely turned a wheel and sat in a garage for the last 6-7 years? It might be worth focusing more on current condition and service history. If not, I think you might be in for a long search.

I recently bought a 981 Cayman GTS - there really weren't that many around and I don't recall any of them having less than 10k miles and 1 owner.

Don’t pay attention to owners on these cars. Porsche ownership is quite different to the majority of other marques

Why very low mileage? You'll pay a lot more, and won't be able to drive it much without hitting the value. Buy on condition.

Do I go for Manual or PDK....?
Only you can answer this after test driving both.

Do I buy from OPC, General Trader or Private....?
Whatever you're comfortable with/can afford. You don't mention indy's.

Adaptive mounts have seen failures on sports chrono cars.

Get a Spyder? More available and many with 10k mies or less. I bought one last April and love it. If you do get a GTS definitely get a manual.

Agreed……if budget allows get a Spyder, you won’t regret it.
This looks a good spec/decent price.

I'd vote manual but I'm a biased.

I did see the PTS Peridot Green Boxter GTS with Derek Bell signature on the Frunk. That looked immense but a) cannot remember if it's a man or pdk and b) most likely has been sold. I wanted to buy it but given its concourse-like condition, parking it outside 24/7 I'd of felt guilty!

Definitely buy on condition and history, not on miles.

Yes I've seen that one, been on AT for a long time, not sure but the PSE Button on centre consul is missing which I think was standard on GTS, also drivers seat bolsters look quite distorted for such low mileage. Also not fussy on suede wheel..

Interesting you suggested a Spyder, I have been looking at them and as you say there are far more available and generally with low miles. Although, there seems to be a £15-20K uplift in price. I think they look fantastic with the roof down and they sit more aggressively on the road, although the roof is much more fiddly and has a plastic rear window. I'm also fearful that a Spyder would probably have had a harder life than most GTS's.

I would definitely have gone to see that one had it been in a more main stream colour.

That will be a difficult car to find, it’s a sellers market at the moment so if the right car comes along snap it up.

4 years ago I was in your place contemplating a 981 of some description. I wasn’t in any rush to the extent I didn’t even visit my local OPC, I would just keep an eye out when on the road or if I walked past one that was parked up I would have a good look at it. I thought all models looked great but as is the norm with cars the more you look the more you start appreciating/liking the higher spec more expensive models. Annoying isn’t it! Tbh I was drawn to a GTS with its slightly more aggressive stance over the ‘S’ and the fact it stood out a bit.

In those couple of years I never once saw a Spyder on the road. I then started reading a 981 Spyder forum on here and was struck by the passion the owners had for their cars. So I see one for sale in the only colour, agate, that I wanted so I picked up the phone ‘sorry taken a deposit’……I then find out that there are only 12 in ‘my’ colour in the UK and only 227 sold of which 27 allegedly went overseas. Kinda explained why I hadn’t driven past one in those couple of years!

So with one having just changed hands I was looking for 1 of 11 cars in the UK. One comes up for sale and along with the Mrs we go to see it. It was literally the first Spyder we had ever seen in the flesh! Both loved it and took the plunge…….2 years later still love it as much and still not driven past one of the other 199 or 226 whichever is to be believed. So in 4 years I’ve never seen another one on the roads. People have actually asked me what it is as they too have never seen one.

Hope the above has not sent too many of you to sleep but go with your heart and enjoy whichever car you choose, they are all fantastic and we are privileged to be able to drive them.

Happy Driving x

Hatfield have my old GTS up for sale at the moment.

Its Manual and has x73 suspension.

I owned it from new until May this year when i sold it privately . The buyer took it in for service in November and took an offer on it .

When i sold it it was perfect, had full history and wanted for nothing.
