Has anybody here taken delivery of a PDK GT4 yet? If so would you mind posting what the rpm at 75mph in 7th is, please? -I've not kept up to date, maybe no-one has as yet.

It's a hang up I have with GT cars that the top gear is short but from looking at the ratios posted in the GT4RS thread maybe the 718 GT4 PDK has a reasonably high top gear?

Cheers

I think at 75mph it is around 2200rpm but I’ll have a check in the morning.

Thanks, that’s a big difference to usability, for me, over a manual GT4 at 3100 (ish) rpm

Assuming the manual 718 GT4 is the same as the 981 version

What's your concern? Noise levels or fuel economy?

I’ve owned a 981 GT4 and then a 991.2 GT3 and not having a high cruising gear in those annoyed me. Yes, Noise and fuel economy. Loved the GT3 on track, it was epic, but I’d like to drive there in comfort.

As I always say it’s just me, no one else minds and I’m not saying Porsche are ‘wrong’, we all have different likes and dislikes

Big change for me if the current GT4 has the same 7th as my GTS, wish I’d taken the allocation last year! Anyone got one??

7th gear is long with the PDK gearbox I believe, it's a classic overdrive gear and top speed is achieved in 6th. It's the same gearbox as used in the other 718 models, not sure about the final drive though.

I'm pretty sure it's longer than the 6th in the manual 'box, so it would seem to be what you're after.

981 PDK figures look wrong in above chart.

I have a 981 GTS PDK and rev limit is fair bit lower than this table says...that's partly why went for PDK over manual! I reckon 981 PDK gearing is the same as we are seeing here for 718 GT4 PDK, i.e. about 77mph at max RPM in 2nd gear

Yeah, they look insanely long. That means the 981s would hit top speed in 5th gear, but not quite max that gear, and still have 2 more gears to go.... eek

Didn't AP in one of the reveal interviews state the car does just over 60 in second gear ?

That's the GT4RS, which has much shortened ratios. We're talking regular GT4 here smile

Exactly, it’s all about theoretical max speed against rpm in 7th, the 981 GTS pdk and 718 pdk seem very similar, hopefully Supersec will confirm but from his initial reply above it appears the 718 has a nice high 7th for cruising…

Immaterial anyway, I’m can’t stomach paying £20k overs for one and no build slots apparently

That is very impressive indeed for a 4.0 litre 400bhp engine! Can't imagine the 718S with the 2.5 being much better than that?

Yes this comes up regularly. Although the Final Drive of 3.25 would lead you to think those speeds, there must be a reduction in the box itself because 7th is about 33mph per 1000.

The 4.0 GT4 runs at a very high temp 110 degrees water and oil. In fact I questioned this with my OPC why it was so high esp compared to the 4.0 GT3 which only runs top 80s. Perfectly normal they all do that sir apparantly. biggrin:

Must help with the fuel economy too I reckon.

The high gearing and the coast mode (lift off and the car coasts in neutral effectively with PDK)) gives very good motorway economy relative to less impressive economy in give and take motoring.

Also not that it’s relevant for you but this GTS vs my old 981 GTS is much much less droney on the motorway, just done a 4hr trek and it was a pleasure
